I have been working at North Highland full-time for more than 5 years
I have been with the firm for a few years and have seen many changes during my time here, which I feel were necessary and are changing us for the better. At NH you need to own your career, and... develop "your business" and what you are known for, if you wait for others to define this for you, you will probably not be successful here. That being said I do feel that our leadership is very supportive and is truly working to improve our firm every day. We are also starting to get great recognition from Gartner, ALM, Forester, etc... which I think are well deserved and are positioning us well against our competitors. The work is challenging, the people here are smart and great to work with, and I really like what I do every day.
You need to be ready to deal with change and be flexible to work here, which should be the case if you're in consulting anyway. The "how" and "why" of these changes needs to be more clearly and... frequently articulated from the executive team to ensure we bring everyone along and people feel optimistic about our future. Also we are hiring, which is great, but it feels like we are getting a bit thin on staffing in critical/growing areas which should be evaluated. NH doesn't allow our consultants to be on the bench for very long, which I somewhat understand, but as the work ebbs and flows this causes us to be reactionary in how we staff and manage projects, and causes us to lose good people.
Advice to Management
I feel that frequent and more conversational interactions with our employees are critical to our success. One of the things that draws people to work here is the collegial and "approachable"... atmosphere that our firm has prided itself on, keep building on that. As we transition into more of a traditional/travel consulting model, (which is blended with the local model), I would also say we need to focus more on industry expertise, blended with the portfolios and capabilities to ensure we can compete with with other consulting firms that have deep industry backgrounds. This is what wins work.
