Current Employee - Senior Principal Software Engineer

Pros

The company does well and has huge reach. They've fully embraced remote work, so it's a great company for experienced engineers who want to maintain balance with family life. I almost never work... nights and weekends and nobody expects me to. Lot's of very smart, friendly people. I like the current leaders.

Cons

Yahoo has its legacy business that pays the rent, so there aren't the shiny new products that seem like they'd be fun to work on like self driving cars or AI products. Because it's a been eclipsed by... bigger tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon it doesn't get much attention or credit as a tech company from the media. That makes it harder to attract talent. It appears I'm paid less than I could be, especially without the stock options of a public company.
