Current Contractor - Community Education Instructor

I have been working at Pasadena City College for more than 5 years

Pros

Great team to work with and flexible opportunities.

Cons

Currently on offering virtual classes.

Former Intern - Software Systems Engineering Intern

I worked at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for more than a year

Pros

I've heard this can vary by team, but my experience was excellent. I got to work on a variety of challenging tasks. All of my work directly contributed to the mission the team was working on as... opposed to being given a designated intern project so I couldn't mess up the "real" work. My team was also extremely flexible with working around my school schedule. It's a fantastic place to meet interesting people and learn more about different careers since you can set up coffee meetings with basically anyone to learn more about their career path and what they do. The lab itself is also gorgeous and full of great places to work outdoors. Aside from that, it's incredibly rewarding to know that the work you're doing is contributing to inspiring things like climate science or space exploration.

Cons

Can be difficult to understand the matrix organization and determine who to express interest to if you'd like to explore the possibility of a full time offer. Also some of its practices can be a bit... clunky and inefficient- like the sometimes overwhelming amount of meetings.
