Former Employee - Sales

I worked at PetEdge full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

good company, going in the right direction

Cons

ok management going in right direction

Current Employee - Store Associate

I have been working at Tomlinson's Feed & Pets full-time for more than a year

Pros

I've worked a handful of other retail jobs and Tomlinson's far exceeds my experiences elsewhere. As w/ any retail gig, you have to enjoy working with people and be comfortable with selling. This... is not a job for introverts. The hours are reliable (i.e. they don't call you an hour before your shift and tell you not to come in b/c it's slow) and the benefits are good (super generous employee discount and an employer-match 401k, which is unheard of in retail). There's also pretty good communication between upper management and stores. The owner and district manager check in almost weekly. In my past jobs, we'd see a regional manager once a year and that was it. I worked here during COVID and was impressed w/ how Tomlinson's handled it. They made sure all stores had cleaning supplies and PPE, took care of coworkers who had to quarantine, and the owner was still consistently in-store to cheer on the team. It sucked (still sucks) but feels like a team effort.

Cons

As w/ any retail job, working w/ angry customers is never fun. Anti-maskers (virus enthusiasts) are the worst. But, all of that comes w/ the territory. Your experience will largely depend on your... direct manager. If you have a good manager (I did), you'll be in good shape. If you have a high-stress manager, the store environment will reflect that.

Advice to Management

Keep up the team effort. Keep listening to employees at all levels when they have needs or feedback (so far, so good in my experience).
