Current Employee - Leadership

I have been working at Room & Board full-time for more than a year

Pros

Just about as good as it gets in retail. Collaborative, fun, and flexible. A super talented team who are inspiring to work with.

Cons

There are opportunities to provide more incentive to top performers. Additionally, career growth and development seem to be talked about, but not really explored.

Advice to Management

There is always room for growth, but for the most part, management on all levels does a wonderful job with transparency, fairness, and embodying the Guiding Principles of the company.

Pros

If you want to pursue a career in design I promise you won’t find a better company to work for. We get to make our own hours and can adjust our schedules for doctor apts, emergencies, or... anything without having to use personal time as long as we get to 40 for the week. On top of having a great flexible schedule, our leads are generated for us so there is absolutely no cold calling. Besides having a great work life balance, the work environment is awesome and I work with some amazing co workers which we can collaborate ideas off each other. My last “pro” would be how easy and stress free it is to sell cabinets. We really have a great product and the chances of cabinets coming in damaged is slim. I used to have such bad anxiety working at Home Depot because so many projects ended disastrously because of damages and how long it took for a resolution. We make our own cabinets and can get new cabinets processed within 4 hours, it really is incredible.

Cons

My biggest issue would be that there is no work from home option (just for a lucky few that get to “pilot” the program). With today’s society, work from home is more common than ever and it would be... nice to work 2-3 days a week at home. Also, we have been promised a new commission structure which is like a carrot dangling from a string. I would really appreciate a simpler and more rewarding commission structure. If you are looking at bad reviews below it is because some people can’t adapt and adjust to change. We are constantly growing and improving and if you aren’t interested in a fast pace environment we aren’t the company for you. You can’t improve if you don’t try new things, and the years I’ve been here we sure have learned lessons the hard way but always fix and improve mistakes.

Advice to Management

Don’t over promise and under deliver. Work from home.
