International opportunities and the pay is above average for the area. Travel opportunities to South-east Asia and China are the most bequeathed travel junkets. International travel presents... opportunity to meet new people and scope out a possible permanent assignment to the desired area. International travel is first class on decent airlines. Amenities, like cafeterias, in the factories and facilities are relatively nice, with good food and very good selections.
Incompetent leadership who provide zero feedback on accomplishments or targeted goals for the division. Leaders have no international experience and attempt to intimidate employees and contractors.... Moral turpitude is the predominate activity. Security division is openly hostile to veterans and their service. Being successful and competent will draw unwanted and negative attention from level 24 and above. The Six Sigma process is misused and draws a large amount of effort for very little return on product improvement. The best way to survive is do nothing and fly under the radar, providing input will and can draw hostility. The most common response to addressing issues is, "That's not our culture, and you don't understand what we need." Regardless of how unscrupulous the behavior may be. Matrixed organization that is based on who you know and not how well you do your job. Accolades and positions are bequeathed, not earned. You will have to have drinks with the "boys" to find a niche. Often the "boys" are subculture groups that will reject you due to your religious affiliations or principled ethics. Yes, this means what you think it does. Complaints outside the divisions or to Office of Business Practice will not produce results. Caterpillar claims to never lay off management, I guess we know that's not true. The first to say something is the truth, no matter how much evidence is stacked against them.
Advice to Management
Clean house in senior and middle management, base decisions on leadership training and if person is reproachable. Vision 20/20 and Values in Action means nothing unless you train management what it... means and how to apply principles of leadership.
