Former Employee - TEXAS WORKS ADVISOR I

I worked at Texas Health and Human Services Commission full-time

Pros

Loved to help people, Enjoyed working with the staff

Cons

Long hours, Long training, and long time on the phone

Former Contractor - Psychologist

I worked at Texas Department of State Health Services for less than a year

Pros

Laidback, supportive staff, contract work paid well but no benefits. It did pay for hotel & travel (rental car).

Cons

A couple staff were less interested in me due to contract, not permanent, employee. The issues of psychological testing wasn’t well understood for me to do that service. I left before the pandemic... impacted the job.

Advice to Management

Make sure contract staff understands your program for electronic notes. Purchase scoring for MMPI & MCI.
