Stadler Rail

IndustryTransportation Equipment Manufacturing
Description

Stadler builds trains which are tailored to meet the needs of customers. Our trains are reliable and safe, with optimum comfort for the passengers' travels. We are constantly improving the performance and efficiency of our trains using state-of-the-art technologies. Our partners can count on a skilled workforce committed to providing maximum precision and first-class service every day. These Swiss values have shaped and fostered our outstanding reputation. We put reliability, flexibility and innovation into practice – and have done so since 1942. The decision to open a manufacturing plant in the US was reached in 2015 when Stadler won the contract to produce TEXRail. In order to receive Federal funding, TEXRail had to buy Buy America compliant trains. That means that 60% of the material needed to come from US sources, and all final assembly had to be completed here. Stadler immediately started searching for an optimal location, and were introduced to several options, among others Atlanta, GA, Texas and Salt Lake City. Utah felt like home for the Swiss, especially with the mountains and world class skiing, and the great economic benefits that were offered. That coupled with the fact that the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) had available space (an old locomotive maintenance facility), made it possible for Stadler to immediately start working on the project. Stadler spent two years at this facility, known internally as "Warm Springs" before moving into temporary occupancy of the new facility in March 2019. Stadler US celebrated the Grand Opening of its new building in May 2019. The Stadler US facility now is situated in an ideal location for international business. It is a mere 5 minutes from a large international airport with direct flights to Europe, near the crossroads of two major interstates (I-15 and I-80) and close to a Union Pacific freight railway hub. Other reasons that sold Stadler on Utah were the presence of a large, skilled workforce, proximity to other large international businesses and the innovation happening in Silicon Valley in California. Further advantages of a production site in Utah are a large bilingual population with international experience, Utah being one of the highest performing economies in the country, and the central location allowing Stadler access to rail projects across the nation.
