What are perks and other benefits like at 51Talk?

Pros

* Fixed working hours for group classes. * You choose your schedule based on peak hours. * Students are great, they are the reason you keep going. * Never missed a payment.

Cons

* There are no benefits, no bonus or anything extra. You only get pay for your teaching hours. * The teacher is hold accountable for everything that happens during a lesson. And, when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING: - If a student was sleepy (even if is just that one time) during a late-hours lesson, you weren't engaging enough. - If the connection was not the best during the lesson is your fault, PERIOD. - If they audit one of those lesson recording where the connection was poor (without even knowing if it was on your end or not) then you have to go through a revision with the tech dept under a "failure to comply" label. - If you're unable to go through the assessment because you reach out to the tech dept (even more than three times) and they say they cant help you because they are busy doing something else, it's your fault for not reaching out when they were available. * Your assigned coach doesn't ever provide support or reach out unless you are doing something "wrong" that puts her/him in the spot light. * When you ask for feedback to see if your students or parents let any comment regarding your class, you don't get any response or you get the typical "I'll get back to you". * They work with Teachers from different cultures, yet fail to grade their language and to carefully choose their words when providing a feedback, that normally will just be your coach scolding you, as if you were a kid, the only second time you hear from her/him in a year. * Your coach might angrily accuse you of having grammar lapses during your lessons, but when you ask for feedback about it you'll be sent to review your own lesson recording and to reflect on your mistake, because she/him might have too many teacher's lessons to review so there's no way she can make time for your improvement. * If you have questions regarding applications, referrals or hour rates, none of the teams assigned to assist you know how to answer or where to send you to get the answer. Essentially, they let you be and do your thing totally on your own as long as you don't create a problem for them. So, at the moment you cause a problem, oh boy... It's over, they will call you unprofessional and even childish.

Advice to Management

If you want to create a global business environment, then train your coaches so they can be aware of the words they're using while talking to another adult from a total different culture. Please hire enough personnel that can be able to provide support to the teachers productively and effectively. Assigning 400 teachers to one single coach is counter productive and not effective. Is in your best interest to maintain the quality of your product, therefore, providing your teachers with enough feedback and support should be one of your top priorities.

There are no benefits, no bonus or anything extra.

What is health insurance like at 51Talk?

Pros

very easy work with many great students, always had classes booked for nearly five years in 51Talk. Rate of pay was okay but should have been giving more incentives. Overall was happy with the workload and was always paid on time.

Cons

Whenever you needed to correspond with the admin or coach you were always made feel like you were being spanked like a child. I hated telling them if I had an issue. Protocol centered and ALWAYS ROBOTIC in their responses. You get blocked so easily and they deliberately look for ways to fire you or put your page on hold so students can't book you. In truth 51Talk are quiet petty and ignorant of their workers. No health insurance or pay for tenured teachers over 1 year employment and only 50 cent rise in pay for over five years of service shows how mean they were.

Advice to Management

focus more on your teachers needs and try looking at the quality over quantity rather than being too centered on making money off the hard work the teachers do for your company. bring in a better system between the teachers and the administrative side of things were the teachers feels like they are listened to. Give more incentives like other companies do. Basically do your homework as there are far too many good teachers leaving for far better conditions and pay in other companies. your teacher support system is a complete disgrace.

Does 51Talk offer an employee assistance or workplace counselling program?

Pros

At first, they will promise you good opportunities

Cons

The leaders are biased. I experienced power tripping. HR management are not listening to the issues or not resolving. The employee benefit is also not enough. Leaves are about 12-15 days per year combined SL and VL, and there are NO ANNUAL APPRAISAL no matter how hard you work. I worked here for more than 2 years but their pay was about 20000 only. What a shame. Also, they discourage leaves and require people to work like a factory worker, even during the holidays. They do not allow work from home and they mindset the employees to love work more than your family and relationships. I worked in the HBT-Operations. And my previous head Glenna was the worst and unprofessional Colleague I worked with.

Advice to Management

Try to evaluate and give warning to the leaders that needs sanctions. They ruin your company and the reason why the attrition rate is high.

The employee benefit is also not enough.
