What is paid time off like at Acuity Insurance?

Pros

The CEO cares about his employees and has taken us on a journey from one of the worst places to work to one of the best by trying to offer excellent benefits, competative pay, good vacation and flex time. A 401k my friends are in awe of. And most important that he truely cares for each employee and feels they are the most important asset that Acuity has. I have worked for companies that consider employees are a dime a dozen and the turn over rate shows that. The Summer party, and Holiday party, the Holiday giftbasket (too heavey to lift), Amazon gift cards, Panera gift cards, boxes and boxes of chocolate are just a few perks of working at Acuity.

Cons

Since the new work from home policy, it is hard to build a connection with people on other teams, in other areas that you don't work with evey day and that you use to see around the building and at Happy hour or company events. One other con is that when a person leaves, depending on your manager, you may not even know they are gone for weeks or months.

Does Acuity Insurance offer relocation assistance?

Pros

Stable Company with future growth trends to continue Great benefits package

Cons

Top down decision making and "old school" mentality Very much a promote from within mentality which curtails new idea generation since mgmt. has only ever known Acuity.

Advice to Management

Trust your employees to do the job that you've hired them to do and allow them to do it. Take care of the problem employees instead of developing blanket policies. Expunge the term "Acuity Way" from your vocabulary and don't be intimidated by those who have more knowledge/experience then you do.

Does Acuity Insurance offer dental insurance?

Pros

-Fair pay for the job -Good benefits (health, dental, vision, 401K) -Decent amount of vacation days/PTO time -Does a lot for the community and charity organizations -Annual Christmas basket and summer picnic -Allows remote work for most employees (it is fair to note that they were very slow to adapt this and it took COVID to prove to them that some employees work well from home)

Cons

-Late coverage. Management assigns late coverage shifts to employees throughout the year. When people quit, move to different departments, have an emergency or are sick, there's a scramble to fill late coverage shifts. Sporadic, inconsistent late coverage shifts affect work life balance. -The vacation policy in the department is based on seniority. This doesn't work for highly sought after times of year (Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July etc). The same people get these weeks off every year. -The company makes no effort to be green.

Advice to Management

-As we grow, I can only imagine late coverage getting later and later. It makes sense at this point in time to hire a dedicated late coverage staff. It would save a lot of scheduling work and headaches and ensure a consistent dependable team for the later shifts. -Consider rotating who is allowed vacation during high demand holiday weeks. We all have family we'd love to spend extended time with during the holidays. Sadly, 90% of us never get a chance because the same people take these weeks off every year. -The company certainly has enough roof line and land to utilize solar panels as a supplemental energy source. Fleet cars could easily be electric vehicles. They could have more purposeful gardens and plantings to provide dedicated habitats for struggling pollinators like bees and butterflies. They could provide nesting boxes for large and small birds.
