What is paid time off like at Align Technology?

Pros

Comp and benefits very competitive, PTO structure is solid, lots of investment back into business and in MarTech.

Cons

Lack of growth and development, little to no communication from leadership, "fast paced work environment" is more like uncontrolled chaos at times.

Does Align Technology offer massages?

Pros

Smart and kind people in general. We always had nice conversations and a good laugh together. Good atmosphere, excellent salary, team events with endless drinks + yr-end corporate bonus. No need to mention it is hard work but at least paid well.

Cons

In 2 years I had 4 different managers in the Amsterdam office. Very high attrition rate, most people left the company because you need special set of skills to calmly navigate through the daily chaos and disorganization. I believe many people could not or did not want to be part of this chaos any longer. We had several leaders and managers on site, and still a total lack of leadership what describes it best. When people left, it happened many times (to me as well) that their work (due to no backup or action plans) was just simply "shifted" to their closest colleague - who also left soon.. Since the Amsterdam branch relocated to Switzerland in early 2020, quite a few non-existing processes have been created and broken ones are getting fixed - signs of leadership in finance is emerging too - I wish all success to both the "oldies" who moved from Amsterdam ;-) and to the new members as well. Keep creating order in the chaos!

Advice to Management

Stick to the processes and timings agreed with other people & departments across the globe - don't let them walk all over you & your team in the middle of finance month-end with another exceptional "urgent" issue, which most likely (again) they created themselves (for you). It is time to hold people - all of us really - accountable for (non) actions & introduce consequences as an incentive.

Does Align Technology offer dental insurance?

Pros

-Benefits are good overall. The ESPP is probably the best one offered with the 15% discount on 15% of salary that includes a 2 year lookback window. Some people have been able to get 4x returns depending on when they joined/enrolled. 401K is average (3% match), and the health and dental plans are great. -Fast paced and engaging work with high rate of adoption compared to analytics in other companies. There are very few analytics projects that are not adopted or that do not impact the business. -Simplicity of products, data, and sales cycle. There's really only two products that Align sells: Invisalign & scanners. This makes creating insights and understanding the business very easy. -The company has had very high growth (~20% YoY) which leaves leadership generally open to trying new things and layoffs are unheard of.

Cons

-Compensation seems average initially but yearly raises are small (~3%) which can quickly lead to being paid below market value within a couple of years -Majority of the analytics work is reactive and reporting-centric. There is not a lot of time/desire/need for proactive or predictive analytics work. The company is all about what happened in the last month, and reacting to the latest reporting, rather than having a more long-term outlook. ~25% of most analysts' time is spent summarizing what has happened/changed each month. -While there is flexibility about when to come into the office, fully remote work is not an option with few exceptions -Work-Life balance is strained sometimes. While there are many company holidays and leadership generally supporting taking time to recharge, the reality of a fast-paced company is that many weeks you will need to put in 50+ hours to meet deadlines

Advice to Management

Adjust the horizon of where the leaders are focused to be more than 1 month out. The sheer amount of time spent each month analyzing what happened in the last 30 days takes time and attention away from seeing the bigger picture and focusing on what could be happening 1 quarter or 1 year down the road.

401K is average (3% match), and the health and dental plans are great.

Does Align Technology offer family leave?

Pros

Company cares about employees, made it very clear they would not be laying anyone off during COVID They have made working from home an smooth transition during the pandemic Increased maternity leave to 6 weeks in 2019 Great coworkers in my department as well as outside Lots of higher level positions outside of my department are open all the time Company does above and beyond for its customers consistently

Cons

Leadership in my department continues to add more responsibilities without additional pay We are doing work for sales reps that get paid more money than us, when they should be doing that work, so the role is slowly turning into a sales role Little opportunity for promotion within this specific department

Advice to Management

Increasing workload would be fine if there was an increase in pay as well. Please do not add sales-type responsibilities when this is not a sales position.
