How are senior leaders perceived at American Marketing and Publishing?

Pros

Lots of positives learning lessons, life lessons. This is a good way to cut your teeth if you are new to sales. If you follow the system then you will learn the basics of selling advertising that can transfer well to your next step. Print product is great but declining at 4% a year studies show, online is decent but inferior to competition. AMP just does listing management and review management which is essential, but a business owner can do this on their own if they care at all. Is it worth the price point, yes since most business owners realistically wont, but the program is super basic. There are many social media sites that need to be managed, SEO, SEM, robust websites etc and AMP does not do these. Some of the leadership is amazing, some are not and are in way over their head, it 100% depends on your territory. The CRO is the backbone of the company that has been forced to take on way too much which he seems to handle, but all difficult things filter to him. Without him this company would be in deep deep trouble. Good system to learn and enforce good habits, good week long paid training, and if you ask for help you will usually get it depending on your territory/leadership. Lastly, if you last you will learn a lot about the world and what makes these small communities run.

Cons

Products-Again good products, but as additional products layer on in the areas they serve business owners just get confused, overwhelmed, and feel nagged if not approached correctly. Turnover is so high at AMP because the work requires independent people, that have the ability to create interest within seconds, be candid, coachable, with street smarts that 45k a year is not realistic to pay the required talent this position demands. 1 in 8 new hires make it 90 days. The number of 100k earners has declined significantly over the years as the company struggles to transition from declining print to digital. The couple remaining 100k earners are print heavy veterans that are bitter and difficult to work with. Ask in your interview is there more or less 100k earners 5 years ago to now. 10 years ago compared to now. CEO will use non competes to the fullest extent I have heard from many people, so be careful and read thoroughly what you sign. The CEO should realize if you take care of people better you wont have to hold them hostage. Pay people more, the job market is currently great and the work is just too hard to pay people what they are paid. Not including killing your car and with the 2018 tax changes the write offs declined for AMP reps cutting their earnings even more. I hope the company adjusts pay to take inflation, taxes, expensive health insurance, into account. This company has a conundrum, now 5 or so good helpful products with a new CRM tool, but the work requires higher skilled people and you wont get that unless you pay more. To skillfully dig into a town with different products requires a rare person with great leadership. a 45k-70k person just doesn't have this ability in most cases. If they have this skill then they should work somewhere else and get paid twice as much.

Advice to Management

Pay people more. The CEO is printing money like crazy and that's fine, but at the detriment of people because turnover is so high. 25/30k base has been the same for over a decade. Even if the base remains the same incentivize more through bonus/commissions. This is a hard job, and great for 1 in 8 people, but pay them more because they are more special than you know. Less greed!!

Some of the leadership is amazing, some are not and are in way over their head, it 100% depends on your territory.
