Pros

My coworkers are intelligent and supportive. The company offers tuition reimbursement and we are allowed to work from home 8 days a month after being employed for six month.

Cons

They don't have coffee in the breakroom, and there are no refrigerators to store your lunch. You have to buy coffee from their cafeteria.

Pros

Healthcare benefits are really nice. They have a tiered system where you pay different amounts for coverage based off of your salary.

Cons

Tuition reimbursement is not as competitive as other companies.

Cons

Work/ life balance Old fashioned corporate culture Stressful Low salary Management does not listen to employees concerns Beware when applying to this position. This is a call center! You will be on the phone 95% of the time. This position has a fancy name but it’s a call center representative and despite the name Customer Advocate II it’s really a Customer Advocate I for the first year. I cannot speak for any other location but the Chicago Headquarters is the worst! You are locked down with a ball and chain to your cubicle all day answering phone calls from upset members. The training for this position was incomplete and inaccurate so much so that you are not prepared to handle the members concerns effectively. This causes additional stress and frustration with both parties. There are analysts who are monitoring and instant messaging you incessantly as all they want is for you to be available for incoming calls. You are only given 2 minutes to finish notes after a call. This position has you wearing multiple hats which you will not be compensated. Each week there is a new program you need to learn that they failed to teach during training. The building is set up in such a way that it will take at least 8 minutes to get to the cafeteria as there are no break rooms on any of the floors. Only certain floors have microwaves and refrigerators so Your 30 minute lunch is really 22 minutes and 15 minute breaks are really 9 minutes. Bringing your lunch does not help save time unless you’re okay with eating at your desk or skipping lunch all together. This department is very strict with these times and will take away PTO if you are more than 2 minutes late. Also, do not join the union as they are only here to take your money, which isn’t much. They do nothing to represent and help their members. This position has a very high turnover as it is highly stressful. BlueCross and BlueShield should be ashamed of paying it’s new employees so little in this department for the large amount of work that is done. This company sells its employees on the promise of being able to move and grow within the company but it is almost impossible to do so from this position. You will be trapped here for at least 2 years before you can move into another role. To all of those who are thinking about applying to this position please know that you can do better!

Advice to Management

This position does not pay enough for the amount of work and stress for the position. This is exploitation at it finest. Transparency is very poor. Makes everything about the department and position appear illegitimate.
