What is health insurance like at BoxLunch?

Pros

Excellent company culture. Strongly values diversity in all forms. High percentage of female store managers in my district. Lots of communication with higher-ups. Company recently increased minimum starting wage for sales associates and expanded insurance benefits to all members of management, full time and part time. Felt very cared for during the pandemic. Strong visual merchandising presentation. Solid advancement and relocation opportunities. Recently shifted focus in a big way to employee recognition and celebrating successes and improving the internal and external experience. Overall an awesome place to work.

Cons

Pay scales are still not as competitive with the market as they should be. Recent distribution issues have presented a challenge in inventory levels post-pandemic. Sometimes a little too slow hopping on product/license trends.

Advice to Management

Flexible scheduling and rotating weekends off for management makes a big difference in offsetting the pay scale shortcomings of the company. Stay positive and solutions-focused, build a happy and diverse team, and don’t be afraid to share your ideas and you will go far!

Does BoxLunch offer unlimited time off?

Pros

Loved my team members, customers are overall easy to get along with, good benefits/PTO

Cons

You better get hired at the pay rate you want forever because it's impossible to get raises. They'll hire on new people much higher than those who've worked there for years. Poor communication from company. They don't listen to your feedback or input it's always just "well this is was corporate wants". They try to make themselves look good via social media when it comes to social issues/COVID/ect. They paid us for two weeks then told us we could use sick time after, then changed their minds. They'll donate money to causes but refuse to give decent raises. You're expected a lot compared to how much they pay/offer.

Advice to Management

Show more respect to your current employees that work hard for you. Listen to the input and opinions of your employees instead of just being a corporate monkey.

What is paid time off like at BoxLunch?

Pros

company provides trans positive healthcare at affordable prices dress code is petty casual so you can express yourself (except for unnaturally dyed hair >:(

Cons

pay is absolutely horrendous. i live paycheck to paycheck barely able to feed myself yet company boasted about providing to food-insecure peoples. all product is overpriced and low quality, i’m surprised the company made it through covid with how inessential its merchandise is. like any retail job the upper management could not care less about the happiness and actual well-being of its workers, as long as we meet sales goals. no sick time or PTO for part time managers working 40 hrs. assistant managers doing equal or more work than store manager yet there is $5+ pay difference and benefits. dress code is loose but huge effort to not look “too hot topic.” no unnaturally dyed hair, an outdated and unnecessary rule. pay roll being so low than many times managers are left working upwards to 6 hours by themselves, no breaks. sales associates getting paid minimum wage for maybe 10 hours a week. retention super low

Advice to Management

actually compensate people, both monetarily and beneficially, for the work they put in. if you don’t want to be compared to hot topic, stop selling the exact same stuff, actually differentiate your companies. let me dye my hair, 60% of customers coming into stores have dyed hair. instead of investing time and money into the ugliest production i’ve ever seen and opening new stores, actually invest in your current employees.

no sick time or PTO for part time managers working 40 hrs.
