How is the work/life balance at Bristol Sport?

Pros

Decent benefits incl free tickets to multiple sports. Fun industry to work within. Opportunities for internal promotion and chances to gain solid experience in sport. Good people and team spirit amongst lower level employees. Fantastic venue and facilities, the Ashton Gate side of the business really gets things right.

Cons

Long hours. Matchday contracts include a minimum number of matchday hours to work per season without any real extra remuneration, supposedly built into salary, with no time off in lieu until full hours are hit. Lots of internal politics at senior management level, very volatile environment with senior managers grouping together in cliques and several high performing managers being forced out based upon the opinion of these groups. Lack of expertise in key senior roles, appointments seem to be made based on personality or contacts rather than expertise or prior success. Zero understanding of the local area and supporter groups, with no local representation in any management role at the business.

Advice to Management

Really take the time to do your due diligence when hiring rather than focusing on the previous employer or contact book of the candidate. Don't allow strong personalities to determine business decisions without any supporting evidence.

Long hours.
