What is paid time off like at CHG Healthcare?

Pros

work from home options and PTO

Cons

Discrimination - unvaccinated employees are no allowed to enter the office buildings or attend company events. This also includes team lunches at PUBLIC restaurants. CHG fakes this "all inclusive" culture, but don't let it fool you. Out of touch - Senior leadership has no clue what is going on with the people in the company. They do one survey a year to gauge how people feel about the company, but avoid any additional surveying if negative news has been announce in the company (i.e. avoiding pulse surveys after announcing a company-wide vaccination policy). Extremely Liberal Company - they don't even try to hide it! They focus on ONLY democratic agendas and ignore any mention of conservative politics. Censorship - censoring any employees who disagree or speak up against company policies and agendas. All comments were turned off when employees were RESPECTFULLY expressing their opinions about the new company vaccination policy. Because of the toxic positivity this company constantly shoves down everyone's throats, they didn't like any employees speaking up about something they disagreed with. They would rather censor anyone who doesn't agree.

Does CHG Healthcare offer relocation assistance?

Pros

The mission and message are among the most motivating for any company I've ever worked for. The tangible good and the positive effect that the services CHG provided during my time there made it satisfying work. Strong benefits package, even if nobody uses all aspects of it. Nice HQ building with contemporary features and casual work attire/environment. One of the better development philosophies for employee growth, but requires a manager who wants you to develop.

Cons

Real middle management problem. Some lower-level leadership have clear agendas and will manufacture faults/engage in gossip. Sometimes it felt like gaslighting. I became disillusioned after the company promised not to let anyone go during the pandemic shutdown, but a large number of us were cut without severance. Several former employees were put in a bad place, myself included, during a hard time even after working hard. The "putting people first" motto fell flat to me and others after that. Salary for marketing is also very low for education and experience. You get a lot in benefits, but nobody uses all the benefits enough to get the value out of it. Focus is mostly on sales, so if you are in marketing you can expect to be left out of a lot of the fun/activities and incentives given to the sales teams.

Advice to Management

Keep your promises and at least be honest about why you are letting people go.

Does CHG Healthcare offer dental insurance?

Pros

CHG's core values (putting people first, integrity and ethics, quality and professionalism, growth, and continuous improvement) are talked about often. With most companies, talk about core values rarely corresponds with what the company actually does. CHG is different: nearly everything the company does is in alignment with these values. CHG also recognizes that there is always room for improvement; executives actively seek feedback from employees and make changes in response to what they learn. CHG is careful to hire people who will live up to previously-mentioned core values, and is perfectly willing to pass on a candidate—no matter how brilliant—if they will be a detriment to the culture that results from those values. I've been here for three years, and I can honestly say that it is the only place I've ever worked where literally everyone with whom I've interacted is both smart and pleasant. Work-life balance is respected. While we obviously care a lot about the work getting done, it should never be to the detriment of the person doing it. Everyone is trusted to be able to take care of the work without being babysat, and so no one bats an eye if someone needs to step away from work for a bit to take care of personal business. People are encouraged to care for their personal and familial well-being rather than sacrifice it. Pay, raises, and bonuses are good. Benefits are great and get better all the time, and CHG pays most of the premium. There are even some benefits that are not commonly seen elsewhere, such as a free on-site clinic, autism and fertility coverage, pharmacy coverage that isn't subject to the medical deductible, free mental health counseling, benefits experts to help you navigate dealing with insurance, and paid time off to volunteer in the community. Leave benefits were already good and have gotten even better. CHG has the most generous parental leave I've ever encountered and starting in 2022, paid bereavement leave has been doubled to 10 days. CHG even got rid of its third-party paid leave vendor because they wouldn't offer a plan that provided 100% of the employee's income during leave, and in 2022 will manage the leave program in-house. Although the CHG digital team is largely composed of white males (unsurprising for a technology team in Utah), it has a significantly greater percentage of women and ethnic minorities than anywhere else I've worked. Over the last year, CHG has been noticeably stepping up its efforts to ensure that diversity is valued and opportunities are equal. CHG recently made the difficult decision to require all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to work in the office, travel for the company, or participate in company-sponsored events. Employees who choose not to be vaccinated will not be fired, but can only work remotely, and will not be eligible for the benefits discount program. There was no decision they could make that would make everyone happy, and certainly some employees are not pleased with this policy. It's clear that CHG executives struggled long and hard with this issue, but as a company in the healthcare space, I think it would be irresponsible for CHG to not strongly encourage vaccination. However, I applaud them demonstrating concern for the individual rights of those who choose not to be vaccinated, and for creating a way that they can continue to work for CHG while still protecting our employees.

Cons

The things that I mentioned as negatives in my previous Glassdoor review has been improved, but one thing that used to be excellent has suffered: training. While CHG still provides a great on-boarding experience for new employees, investment in skills development for existing employees came to a standstill when the pandemic hit. This was understandable during the period of enormous uncertainty caused by COVID-19, when the company's financial outlook was much more uncertain. However, CHG is currently experiencing unprecedented success, yet has not resumed investing in skills development, at least on the digital team. There were changes in the digital leadership team a little before the pandemic started, and the impression is that the new leadership is unconvinced of the value of investing in things like enrolling employees in skills training or attending conferences. I am concerned that this approach negatively impacts hiring and retention, as top technical talent often expects companies to be willing to make these sorts of investments in their employees. It also feels very much at odds with the core values of growth and continuous improvement, in a company that otherwise does such a fantastic job of adhering to its values. I have a lot of respect for the digital leadership, but I feel that this should change.

Advice to Management

The CHG core values are key to our success. Never compromise on them. Keep putting people first. Where CHG invests its time, effort, and money is a reflection on what it truly values. Currently, investment in skills development for existing employees is far less than it used to be, to the point of being almost non-existent. This is contrary to our values of growth and continuous improvement. This sort of investment in employees is not optional if you want to hire and retain great talent.

Does CHG Healthcare offer family leave?

Pros

CHG is a company that lives and stands by its core values. I started with this company as an entry-level admin and have grown into a senior-level corporate role with infinite growth opportunities. The benefits beat most employers, especially for women with things like 100% paid maternity leave and insurance coverage for fertility treatment.

Cons

None, this really is one of the best companies to work for.

Advice to Management

As an extrovert, I've found it easy to grow with the company but I've seen introverts struggle since they're less likely to put themselves out there. Look out for those rock star introverts that can help take the organization to the next level. Give them the push and assurance they need to grow.
