Does Clark County Department of Aviation offer dental insurance?
Pros
Benefits working for the county were good such as medical, retirement, dental etc ...too bad that you have to wait 3 mos to get it. That is if you make it that far.
Cons
Very unprofessional atmosphere! Some people were really nice but some are really unorthodox, cursing a whole lot, gossiping, rude to customers and unprofessional in the workplace but I think a lot of them are really good people on a personal level. It's definitely a certain kind of rough culture. You either fit on or you don't. If you don't you're out. Training is very unorthodox and sad part about it is everyone learns a job differently but they don't care about that so your percentage of failure because of that is extremely high if you don't get it 'their' way. Old and outdated equipment and office is also outdated and no ergo whatsoever. Some really Good people there... just very unprofessional from what I have been used to in my career.
Advice to Management
Management seems to like you if you are rude and obnoxious to customers if you're too nice you won't make it there (I guess I was too nice and I didn't fit in their "culture" there) I pretty much knew that I wasn't what they wanted from day one. I just had that feeling. It's funny because the FIRST thing most of the supervisors said to me on my 1st day was "Oh she actually showed up!" That should have been a warning sign...apparently I wasn't the first choice. The 1st two never showed up after being offered the job. Maybe they were the smart ones. I came because I needed a job. Management needs to learn that's NOT the way to be (being rude to customers etc) or have new people trained around that kind of behavior even if the person training is the best at their job which the trainer was. The training is totally unorthodox, they teach you a certain way while you watch them and others do things they're not supposed to do/breaking rules etc. Kind of like having a bad role model. I guess they feel they've been there a long time and they can get away with it. MGMT and trainers give you ZERO feed back during training ( I was literally there 5 weeks and training/probation is a year here...no one gave me any feed back during that time I was training whatsoever!) I guess they feel if you don't fit in with them and you don't pick up the job in 30 days you're not going to make it...The shift you get will be horrible and working 4 ten hour shifts actually sucks...and no room to move up ever in that position. If you're lucky you can apply for other jobs within the county after you make your year probation. And when they don't think you're doing the job (even though you're in training and you make one mistake it's over for you!) they'll set you up top fail in the most inhumane and embarrassing/humiliating way by sabotaging you to make you look like an idiot then they fire you! ...If they like you, you'll make it...if not kiss your job goodbye! Honestly I think they did me a favor by not giving me a real chance and I appreciate my time there...so Thank you :)
