What are perks and other benefits like at Critical TechWorks?

Pros

It has great people and cool projects, all related to the BMW Group. Of course, since it's a big company, it all depends on which unit/team you'll be assigned to, but in my case, I had a good experience with my colleagues. The technology stack was the best in the market, I learned a lot and the work/life balance was always good enough. The company provides a lot of benefits and there is no micromanagement, I really felt the autonomy during all my time there and worked in a real scrum/agile environment. I would say CTW is a perfect company to start your career, they will respect your pace and I don't think a lot of companies will do the same for you.

Cons

There is no real meritocracy in the company, they try to create a comfortable space all the time that will accommodate in a bad way many people. And if you work and deliver more than these people, the company doesn't really care. When you demonstrate you can deliver more, you'll receive more responsibility but will not see significant increases in your income. Compliments are not enough to retain and recognize good talents, especially if there are a lot of outdated seniors developers doing less and receiving more.

Advice to Management

Stop putting so much money into marketing campaigns to hire new people. Looks like the purpose of the company is not to deliver high-quality IT solutions, but to hire people as a scheme of multi-level marketing. Increase the engineer salaries or you'll be always hiring juniors developers and losing them after two or three years. I really would like to still work in CTW but is hard when you see a lot of money going in every direction and never promoting valuable engineers. If you retain these people, you don't need to hire new ones.

Does Critical TechWorks offer disability insurance?

Pros

* You will have BMW group experience in your CV when you decide to leave. * Insurance is nice for Portugal. * You may have nice benefits like travelling to Munich if you connect with right people from BMW.

Cons

* You will be underpaid. * You will always be stressed and exhausted from amount of work you have to do and unprofessional management in Critical. * Working culture is toxic here. You will never receive credit for your ideas and accomplishments. But if you fail, be sure you will be the only responsible. * Career growth is broken, your performance never matter, everything here is based on favouritism. Don't expect any decent promotion unless you have connections. * Staff turnover is high, company CEO explicitly states that you should leave if you don't like something. * Expect managers and leadership to lie directly to your face to get short-term benefit.

Advice to Management

Reconsider criteria required for managers and leadership. Leadership should provide an example and not create irritation or become source of jokes. Drive resources and attention to employees who produce value for BMW and away from people that's job in the company is unclear.
