What is overtime like at DigitalOcean?

Pros

* Great pay and benefits, especially for those lucky enough have access to pre-IPO shares. * If you like writing go, this is the place for you. * Coworkers are all friendly, good people. * Management makes genuine efforts to continually improve. * Things overall tend to get better over time. * Super remote-friendly.

Cons

* Hard to feel motivated when opportunities to implement mildly interesting features are de-prioritized quarter-by-quarter in favor of admittedly more important and impactful initiatives. * Management pays lip service to work/life balance, but that's all it is. Be willing to sacrifice the life end of that spectrum and you will promote fast and get to work on interesting projects. * The team I am on has been understaffed for about two years now. The products we develop and support have too many users so we find ourselves thrashing endlessly between support, bug fixes, and feature development. * Nearly 100% of the company is full-time remote. I've been working here three years. The team I have been on that whole time has never had an offsite. Yes, blah blah blah pandemic. The entire team is vaccinated. In theory, we could conduct a team vote to see if everyone is comfortable with meeting in person. But the company isn't allowing it, primarily for cost-savings.

Advice to Management

Nope.

Things overall tend to get better over time.

How flexible is your schedule working at DigitalOcean?

Pros

Lunch catered. Great health benefits. Flexible schedule. Great work/life balance.

Cons

They are a start up and no one really knows what to do with someone else's vision and idea. My entire experience at DigitalOcean felt like a hamster wheel experiment. I felt like they were collecting data on what worked and what didn't work. If you ever wanted to practice for any political role in government, you will love the office politics here. Leadership? bruh (insert John Wall meme). I wish I had enough baby powder to slap some sense into them. What did the five fingers say to the face? You know the rest. Proceed with caution. Play the game. They aight.

Advice to Management

Read lots of books on leadership. If there were a Holy Bible but for leadership, I would highly advice you to tattoo that on your heart. Matter fact, pray and read the bible, I'm sure only God has the answer to fixing the "sales" program here. If sales means imaginary friends we get to say hi to when we're alone, then sales rocks here!

Flexible schedule.
