What is working from home like at E. & J. Gallo Winery?

Pros

Free wine, some flexibility to work from home, most employees are friendly and welcoming.

Cons

Expects you to be on call always, shorting people on raises despite excellent work performance and skyrocketing cost of living, always asking employees to do more for less to save the company money. An example, performance feedback throughout the year being nonexistent, final review feedback all positive, and giving PA reviews of successfully meets level. Meaning you do your job exceptionally well all year, taking on extra job responsibilities since half your team left, train people in and out of your department, receive no improvement opportunities from your manager all year despite requesting them, and still they give you a measly merit increase of less than 2%. Your work will be thanked verbally by senior leadership but when it comes to putting their budgets where their mouths are it doesn't happen.

Advice to Management

Stop shorting your employees their deserved compensation and promotions. There is a reason our employees are leaving en masse. You then take that extra responsibility and put it on remaining employees only to reward them with next to nothing at the end of the year. It's not the business, growth has continued to expand. One has to wonder where the extra money made during the pandemic is going, because it certainly isn't into the pockets of the employees who made it happen.

What is overtime like at E. & J. Gallo Winery?

Pros

Slightly above average pay for my field of work

Cons

Corporate style policies aim to fire employees. Family feel that the company used to have has been disappearing over the years even pre covid. Everything is about the bottom line used to be a great place to have a career now it’s just a job. Best way to succeed here is to be a managers favorite and that’s not just my department that’s across the board , hard work is always rewarded with more hard work while slackers never get asked to step it up. If your looking to work here keep looking the pay isn’t worth it. They Force overtime and off shifts no thought of you being human and having a life outside of work. It used to be good here

Advice to Management

Relax your attendance policies before you lose more people. Remember that Gallo isn’t life for everyone it’s a way to pay for the life we want outside of work . Consider hiring more people so we aren’t forced to work 6 days a week all summer when our children are home from school.

Does E. & J. Gallo Winery reimburse for mileage?

Pros

Seems like Modesto employees live at Disneyland.

Cons

From working 40-60 hours a week, coming into work Monday - Friday during peak of COVID, working through evacuations from fires, etc.. we should not be financially struggling. I say "we" because others in my department have stressed concerns to me as well about their financial situation during these tough times of high inflation rates. Gas prices (need gas for getting to work and back home) are insane, food prices, and ugh RENT! Struggling to keep up with the cost of living should not be #1 concern when working for World's Largest Family Owned Winery. My raise this year was less than $2! Worked my butt off to get that raise, completely understaffed too! How does that compare to inflation? It doesn't! I have a science degree and work for one the wealthiest companies, yet make less than my roommate who works 25 hours a week as a server.

Advice to Management

There is a lack of appreciation towards employees. Other companies have given bonuses and raises for COVID and inflation, and we receive a bottle of wine and are expected to feel grateful. My HR experience has not been great. From not knowing who our HR rep was for a year, to emailing HR specific questions and not getting a response back but then hearing back about it from my boss's manager. Lot of people are looking for positions externally because culture at the winery and not competitive enough salaries. PA season feels toxic and degrading.
