How are career development opportunities at Fry's Food?

Pros

You meet a lot of great people, made many friends, loved my coworkers and employees. Great experience for grocery retail you learn everything you’ll need at pretty much any other grocery retail company. High standards will help you if you transition to another company. Job can be fun and creative, you work in a huge store so lots of option for lunch I really do love Fry’s as a store.

Cons

Entire company culture is so negative. I used to tell myself it wasn’t so bad but now that I’m at another company that is treating me better I can see I had Stockholm syndrome. Fry’s told me how horrible I was my entire 10 year career but at my new company I am praised. I am a dedicated employee I love and care about my job and I take pride in working hard, this is not appreciated or recognized at Fry’s. Instead you are constantly held to ridiculous standards while every other store you go to looks horrible yet you are still told your nice-looking store just isn’t nice enough. You had 1 item taken off a clip strip? Your store isn’t good enough! It’s exhausting and no matter how hard you try you will be treated like garbage. Management can be downright abusive and nothing will be done about it, the union is a total joke. Also pay is abysmal you will be offered a promotion only to realize you’re getting a pay cut it’s a total joke no wonder they can’t keep any decent employees around. Also they don’t promote anyone unless they’re 60 years old I couldn’t afford to wait another 10 years to get promoted and get a $2k/year pay raise if I was lucky.

Advice to Management

Stop being so negative, I still have a complex from my poor treatment here. I’m always worried I’m doing a bad job because I’m so used to being told I’m awful thanks to Fry’s it wasn’t just me it was everyone, we were all awful according to Fry’s.

Fry’s told me how horrible I was my entire 10 year career but at my new company I am praised.
