Is GL Huyett a good company to work for?

Pros

Personal development and culture. The people are great and the company does a lot for the community.

Cons

Location in rural area. Sometimes work life balance tilts a little bit out of balance as we scramble to hire the right kind of people. We hire carefully and not just warm bodies.

Advice to Management

Really a matter of keep doing what you are doing. Managers, including the owner, are trying to hire at the pace of growth which is challenging in our area. Don't lower your high standards!

The people are great and the company does a lot for the community.

What is the company culture at GL Huyett?

Pros

Most coworkers are genuinely good people, to work with and be around. Company culture is generally positive. A cornerstone of their small town. Work generally feels fulfilling. Good pay and benefits.

Cons

- CEO is a notorious micromanager. He has to know absolutely everything. He has to have an opinion about everything. - Few (minority) of coworkers were hostile daily. Very obviously despised their job and made everyone around them miserable. Funny how their attitude changed when supervisors were within earshot. Passive aggressive to the extreme. - Interview process is ridiculous. 3 phone interviews, 2 in person interviews with supervisors, and 2 "panel" style interviews with 4-5 people on them. PLUS "IQ and Intelligence" tests that take the better part of 3-4 hours. They ghosted me for several weeks, close to a month, before I ever heard anything back from them. - There are WAY too many meetings. Weekly meetings with the CEO, weekly department meetings, daily meetings with supervisor, it never ends. There is no reason for a meeting that should be an email. - Culture here used to be about people, it has gradually changed to focus "on the bottom line" -"Work/life balance" that they promote is a lie. Maybe for some employees, but I went home stressed every day.

Advice to Management

Take a step back and evaluate what's going on. Put your people 1st, everything else will fall into line when you have a staff of people that love to be at work.

Company culture is generally positive.
