Does Gander Outdoors offer employee discounts?

Pros

Great employee discount. High pay for the position. Great products to sell. Good friendly atmosphere. Reasonable benefits package.

Cons

The owner only cares about selling RV's and shut down the stores that didn't, even though some of those stores were top sellers. The owner is political and has often claimed not to like or see the purpose of some of the major products the company offers. Expansion is done through acquisition and closure of rivals. There are percentage quotas for selling club memberships, credit cards, and warranties.

Great employee discount.

What are some insights into the strategy or vision at Gander Outdoors?

Pros

Very little structure if you like that type of environment. If you hated college don't worry, you won't be asked to use anything you learned their, as they don't model, forecast, or plan their business, it's 100% reactive.

Cons

Sexism - I would advise any men looking to work here to think again. Gander (More specifically Marcus) is about projecting an image, not about their customers or their needs. Thus all of these outdoor categories are managed by women who know little to nothing about the product or uses, but who are very up on their personal image, makeup, and hair styles. Marcus loves the ladies, and treat guys like third class citizens, especially if you're in better shape then him or his little right hand man. Outside of the erroneous HR type of issues that plague this company, the internal processes are the worst in the industry. No planning, no strategy, just Marcus shooting from the hip. You'll spend a month getting a presentation together, planning a launch or some other initiative, and he'll tank it for something silly like the color of the shirt you wore that day. Marcus is completely unprofessional, not very talented, but very, very sneaky!

Advice to Management

Fold, you have no clue what you're doing, you bought the company on a whim, and have yet to produce anything material. For the love of God stop Marcus from participating in your marketing. Everyone can read right through his BS, he's never camped before, he hates the outdoors, and until he bought the company (The number one gun retailer in America) he had never fired a gun, and flat out doesn't like them.

No planning, no strategy, just Marcus shooting from the hip.

What kind of career opportunities exist at Gander Outdoors?

Pros

Employee discount on available products.

Cons

Poor management. General Manager, Finance Manager, Sales Manager, and Service Manager positions were a revolving door. Promises of certifications, never came to fruition. Promises of advancement, never came to fruition. Furloughed without further communication after being deemed essential. PPE was not distributed during COVID-19.
