What is paid time off like at George Washington University?

Pros

You'll work with some thoughtful, warm, and bright colleagues who bring enthusiasm and fresh thinking to their roles. Paid time off is also quite decent, and work quiets down in summertime when students are out.

Cons

Inequitable pay, as the University operates on a "burn and churn" system with entry and even mid level staff positions (i.e. pay them low wages so that they'll quickly move on after they've taken advantage of their tuition remission and gotten advanced degrees). Little to no support or feedback from HR and leadership on a variety of personnel, finance, and other issues. Toxicity within the University born from leadership that is not in touch with the needs and desires of students, faculty and staff. Very little opportunity for professional growth.

Does George Washington University offer relocation assistance?

Pros

Week off during Christmas/New Year's. Decent but dwindling benefits package.

Cons

No direction provided, no job description, constantly rotating management from President to Dean to Chair. No value given to staff contributions. No respect for staff. No upward mobility for staff, and not a great pay scale. A very toxic environment overall.

Advice to Management

GWU used to be a wonderful place to work, but has steadily declined over the past 10-12 years. All managers should be trained on how to effectively utilize staff, how to make a staff development plan. There should also be training provided to faculty to help them understand that staff are important and also have a role.

Decent but dwindling benefits package.
