What are perks and other benefits like at Glu Mobile?

Pros

Glu is in a comfortable spot, with several successful games under its belt. There are some nice perks and a comfortable working environment. Each game team operates very independently and has it's own culture, so your experience can vary. The game teams have been known to be very close, many lasting friendships have been formed, and many say the close culture at Glu is unlike anywhere else they have worked.

Cons

The culture is a pro for some, but definitely a con for others. Sometimes teams have been known to be very cliquey. If you think you're just going to do your work and not try to be anyone's friend, you might have some major problems. I've seen things that felt right out of the movie Mean Girls. Whenever I hear anyone say 'We're a family here!' I cringe.

Advice to Management

Ease up on the 'we're family' attitude. Maybe when you are at the top of the totem pole you feel like a member of the 'family', but for a lot of employees it's like you are on the outside looking in. Also, don't judge a team's worth based solely on how much money they bring in.

What is the feeling of job security at Glu Mobile?

Pros

- Good diverse work culture - Benefits & Perks - Work life balance - Took good care in COVID

Cons

- Long-term clarity is missing most of times. - Job threats to direct reporting team member (please make a note here to a management level team member) by HQ specific department heads / directors during visits to Hyderabad studio in front of their other direct report members. - - No proper transparency in the management, last-minute changes/updates. They will promote IC role to management level in no given time within 2 years...just on based on feedback from team members in Hyderabad, India. I mean from Analyst level to Manager. - Big time favour’s towards women employees ( in this particular department, I don't know about other's) by showing a soft corner and making them happy by giving promotions and calling it out a new name or term as " MOVEMENT" behind will write emails to HR as promotions. - Low job security, company not too averse to layoffs for cost cutting - Will cut off bonus & pay raise percentage for newly joined team member & plus of their direct reporting Lead or Manager just to make sure to keep them happy those who complaint, defame their own reporting manager ( in survey's & skip level meetings) & plus one of the women employees. - Not being an employee centric company any more - Lastly, in a particular department there are these bunch of immature local people (excluding few ) who don't have the courage to speak-up & are expert in complaining, defame & lot of other qualities eg : part time Lawyer, big mouth & laughing maniac, frustrated soul, diplomatic & bald soul etc.

Advice to Management

- Give a sense of security to employees, don't hike salaries or give big bonuses, instead use that money to help retain employees. - Value your employees and don't judge someone just on your sick feedback survey by employees. Just because particular department is getting hit on percentage scores

- Low job security, company not too averse to layoffs for cost cutting

How are senior leaders perceived at Glu Mobile?

Pros

There were sometimes good snacks and some fun people to work with.

Cons

Corporate greed runs deep. As an employee you will suffer the consequence of leadership actions and get laid off. Don't worry. When you are either shut down or laid off, leadership will say, "we didn't get large bonuses this year." Their words, not mine.

Advice to Management

Focus on original content and not just a meat grinder or rehashing tired ideas.

As an employee you will suffer the consequence of leadership actions and get laid off.

How is management perceived at Glu Mobile?

Pros

Catered lunch, free snacks and drinks, company parties, decent corporate structure for benefits, PTO/vacation, etc.

Cons

Poor management that is disconnected from the development process and the consumer. It feels like a bunch of old men in a high tower deciding what they think mobile game users want (spoiler alert, they usually don't), deciding on unrealistic timeframes and expectations without consulting the devs and locking them into that deal by pitching it to shareholders so that there's nothing you can do but crunch to make it happen.

Advice to Management

Hire someone who actually understands the market so you can make products that aren't automatically doomed to fail. You've had to shut down most of the studios (including mine) and projects you've had since I've been there due to poor business sense. Consult with developers before committing to a project and pitching it to shareholders. When you undercut development time to make a project seem more attractive, you're actually just dooming it to fail since the quality is going to be so lackluster and the employees are going to get burnt out.

Poor management that is disconnected from the development process and the consumer.
