What is paid time off like at Goodyear?

Pros

Very competitive pay, generous PTO after a few years of service, company match up to 4%, national brand is always easier to sell, most stores have good traffic on a regular basis.

Cons

exhausting hours, managers are expected to live at their stores, you might earn PTO but good luck taking it. Staffing is a nightmare can't keep people year over year.

Advice to Management

Staff the stores properly so you don't burn people out. I've got shops running with 2 sales people and 3 techs turning 20-30 cars per day 7 days a week.

Does Goodyear offer massages?

Pros

Benefits. You can cancel your gym membership because the physical work alone will keep you in shape. Free coffee. Management ordered pizza once a month when no incidents occurred.

Cons

Dirty, don't think of working here if you have any breathing health related issues. Be prepared to work during hot, cold, wet, dry. It didn't bother me, but others it seemed to bother when "your space" would be taken up due to weather. Communication would get lost and ideas to improve certain areas were not listened to. A lot of temp-to-hire employees. Accountability among other coworkers.

Advice to Management

Check-in on all of your employees throughout the week. Have them come in your office and listen to ideas they have or concerns of theirs. My biggest complaint was the lack of promotional opportunities after had being there for almost 5 years. The raises were nice after I asked for them, but it seemed that my workload and responsibilities did not reflect my "title" or pay. Communication and culture are huge for a company to be successful. It hurt seeing someone else get a promotion or opportunity based on what they did outside of work. There was no merit based promotion, it was based on your connection.

Free coffee.

Does Goodyear offer family leave?

Pros

Good benefits, union contract to protect workers and provide a livable wage, and family oriented environment.

Cons

No work life balance, company focuses on numbers versus quality, favoritism, initiative programs fail due to management changing structured process to suit the company needs versus empowering the workforce to make decisions, greedy title holders in management, never stay with strategic plans, and no respect for workforce. The company has forgotten how they make their profits and what generates their revenues.

Advice to Management

Take time to listen to the workforce. There are employees within your hourly workforce that carry more credentials than the people you have sitting in management positions. When implementing new manufacturing processes, stay with the process and how it designed to work successfully, and stop changing processes to favor the company so that blame is shifted to the hourly workers. When you create a problem that cost millions of dollars, take accountability and stop being deceitful to the workers and calling it "Restructuring." You created the gaps in production process by hiring plant managers that were not knowledgeable of the tire manufacturing process that created the downward fall within the Gadsden plant. Preventive maintenance was obsolete and forged daily by the maintenance manager. Production auditors saw the problem but was ignored when they presented the issues to upper management. Waste was hidden from the "Big Dogs" during plant tours and equipment was falling apart due to lack of capital investment. Gadsden was overlooked for years as a part of the company's long-term goal to shut it down. The implementation of a manufacturing process that failed due to management's realignment of key components to favor the company. Just as many of the initiatives in the past that Goodyear changed up due to the work for extra work, the company decided it was packages but Goodyear somehow managed to align it to favor the company as well by using the governments unemployment benefits to offset the agreed upon severance package to the employees. The workers in the Gadsden facility would have rather kept their jobs rather than have been set up for failure with the "Restructuring" of their plant which basically meant, "moving the production to another plant." When workers are allowed to go outside of the rules by management, the company fails. Stop blaming the workforce for poor management. Hold management accountable for their poor management decisions. Focus more on quality and less on numbers. Quality products should supersede the worry of numbers especially when working in an environment where pushing employees to rush can lead to incidents that can become fatal or a life can be taken from riding on bad tires. If the goal is to lower worker's comp., stop creating avenues that lead to workers being in the direct line of an unsafe act.
