Why do Harris Teeter employees quit?

Pros

You definitely make a lot of friends at this job. You get two bonus paychecks a year. They did a covid perk where every so often you received $125 in store credit. Every month you get a certain three items for free.

Cons

The management is absolutely terrible. One of the managers is very condescending to me. (One time I was returning the tax exempt sheet behind the desk and she asked me a question as I walked by. I didn't quite hear her so I turned around and asked, "What?" She then went off on me saying, "Can we use the word yes?! You need to use the word yes when talking to me!" And saying how she wished her son used that word when talking to her. Another manager got mad at me when I told her that my schedule should not constantly be changed on me and she told me it was Harris Teeter policy which it is not. We are supposed to get schedules three weeks in advance. She then tried to write it off as a covid policy when I was hired after covid started and I was told it was supposed to be three weeks before the week beforehand even. I then told her I did not think it was very respectful of me and my time to do that and she yelled, "I'm trying to help you! If you would just stop talking we can fix this!") They say when you are hired that you will get priority over outside hires. About a month ago I noticed we desperately needed people in floral and seeing as how I had always been interested in that position, I talked to my manager who basically guaranteed me the job. Earlier this week, they posted the job and have been interviewing people for the position that they had basically guaranteed me. I have been working here for over a year and new hires are getting paid more than me. I make $12.40 an hour and it seems the norm for new hires is $12.50. One guy was even getting paid $12.70 and he was recently fired. They also fire people for the dumbest reasons and definitely have favorites. The guy previously mentioned only got fired after he was written up seven times (you are supposed to be terminated after two) and would never work when he was there (he was written up so often as he called out every week). The only reason he was fired is because someone in customer service had had enough of him. However, they fired my friend who actually worked because she only gave them a three days notice for her going on a week long road trip and she had told them as soon as she found out about it. She said that they did not mention it in the meeting where she was terminated but she had dyed her hair black about a month before hand and they had told her not to come in to work until she fixed it. The thing about the hair is the policy is you are allowed to dye your hair if it is a natural color. She had dyed her hair black but they said that she could not come back because it, "Looked blue at certain angles." They also made another girl give herself a buzz cut because she dyed her hair. They write you up for the dumbest things. For example, my friend ducked under a divider once and she was written up for it and was cursed out by management because they were mad that they had to do the paperwork. They do not give out breaks at reasonable times. I tend to get mine about an hour before my shift ends. We are not allowed to close our own lanes when our shift ends. And most of the time, management forgets to do it. There has been times where I have worked up to 40 minutes late just because they forgot about me. They will lecture you if you close your own lane. Overall, I would very highly not recommend this branch of Harris Teeter. Do yourself a favor and apply elsewhere.

Advice to Management

Be more organized.
