How is management perceived at John Swire & Sons?

Pros

Opportunity to work internationally throughout Asia Lots of training (entirely soft skills though) Opportunities to build relationships with senior management Good benefits - housing, relocation, medical insurance Amazing work life balance

Cons

No commercial responsibility given within first 3-5 years Lots of learning by osmosis and minute taking Very limited transferrable skills - trainees are too generalist to be of much use to other organizations Poor incentive scheme rewards slackers Stale pool of management talent where most people are from the same background

Advice to Management

Give management trainees real jobs with commercial responsibility. Year-long rotations for a period of 3 years is too long and stunts development,
