What are some insights into the strategy or vision at Juniqe?

Pros

• The product (art!) • Typical startup perks: office dogs, fun team events etc • Very open feedback culture • Lovely employees, passionate about their field

Cons

They say "flat hierarchy", but this is really not true (see other reviews). People at the bottom / in the middle have very little influence over major company decisions that affect them and their work. • The business strategy is effective on paper, but maybe not so ethical / sustainable in the long-term. People are quietly "dismissed" from their jobs, and some creative teams are dying out, while the more "profitable" teams are growing (e.g. marketing). • Overall employee satisfaction?? Free pizza and beer etc cannot compensate for / conceal the aforementioned problems. The fact that so may people seem to be looking for jobs elsewhere kind of says it all.

Advice to Management

I understand that the company wants to make money and achieve their goal of democratising art - but this shouldn't be at the expense of the employees' satisfaction or the individuality of the JUNIQE brand. • Maybe look less at your competitors, and listen more to your talented pool of employees (importantly, not just the people at the top). JUNIQE is full of creative individuals bursting to put forth their ideas. So use them - this is what makes you "unique".

• The business strategy is effective on paper, but maybe not so ethical / sustainable in the long-term.

How is management perceived at Juniqe?

Pros

Great individuals to work with. Product is great, if you're into visuals. Good office, though can get loud sometimes. Free wall art! Nice new incentive with cocktails on fridays. Great vibe with staff in general.

Cons

Terrible hierarchy. No brand direction. Management is cold and unresponsive, or otherwise, full of ego and inexplicable inexperience with actual team/people management skills or management in general! My time there was spent guessing, despite my experience in my field/craft, whether my managers would "like" what I'm doing. Decisions were made based on feelings and current favouritism and without the trust of those who have carried out the work. It was a very unstable environment with little growth to be achieved. Massive inconsistencies with decision-making and direction. I would recommend it as an entry level position, if at all, but be wary that here is not a place to achieve your dreams, nor should you take it as an example of what a professional workspace could be like. It's a start-up with all the start-up flaws in mismanagement and leaders with no leadership skills.

Advice to Management

Maybe hire some quality senior staff with quality experience and works well with people, in practicality, rather than in concept. Budget shouldn't be an excuse for lack of quality in management or training. To the CEOs, please practice some humanity by getting to know your staff, and actually say hello or make eye contact. Meet the people, talk to the people who cog the wheels of your business. It's weird to be in an office with not that big of a company and you feel weird passing each other.
