What is the salary like at Klarna?

Pros

I have been working at Klarna for 1.5 years and have learned more in the past year and a half than in my entire career. At Klarna, the culture is one of a kind. Everyone you meet is passionate, intelligent, caring, and shares the same personal and professional values. Working at Klarna you get to wear a lot of hats and work on many different projects at once. Klarna is fast-pace and you get to see your work have an immediate impact on the business and growth.

Cons

The promotion and salary adjustment at Klarna could be better communicated to leaders and individual contributors. I have already seen immense improvement on this in the last year and am looking forward to the future of the promotion process. While working for an international company, time zones are also a con, however, there is not much we can do there besides be flexible.

What are other benefits and incentives like at Klarna?

Pros

Klarna has an incredible team across the US and worldwide. The culture is supportive and inclusive and the opportunity for growth is massive. The compensation is competitive, the company has amazing perks and they truly value each and every Klarnaut. Klarna is a very innovative and proactive place and operate in an exciting growing field. This is the perfect place for people who like to be part of delivering results and are not afraid to think creatively.

Cons

I don't personally consider this a con but because of the sheer pace at which this company is growing, we all have to work pretty full and business days.

Does Klarna offer a daily bonus?

Pros

There are such amazing people working at Klarna and this is the best part of it. Klarna has good benefits but still pays only the average of the market, I definitely expected more from a company in this size. Pro-bono tip: If you are moving from another country, pay attention to negotiating your salary. Klarna doesn't see any problem paying 20% and some times even 30% less to people from other countries that don't know how much the market pays.

Cons

Klarna only seems to be a cool start-up and to have an innovative vibe but looking from inside it is another big paternalistic and micromanaging bank. The teams, product managers, designers, don't have any freedom to make decisions when it comes to product decisions. I've seen the CXOs being abusive many times and they love to put their fingers in every small task, even they not fully participating/understanding the products' cycles. Domain leads are nothing less than "yes sir" employees that accept any CXO request without challenging anything. The operation model seems to change every six months and it's far to be working, making everything even worse, with a lot of miss-communication and objectives misalignment among teams and domains. Also, don't expect to have your work valued there if you are not Swedish, US citizen, or just do what you are asked to do. If you want to work on the products at Klarna, I'd recommend you to think twice.

Advice to Management

Trust the talented professionals you (unbelievably) manage to hire and the teams you put together. If it's to just micromanage people it's much cheaper hiring junior or bad professionals.

Pro-bono tip: If you are moving from another country, pay attention to negotiating your salary.

Does Klarna offer bonus pay?

Pros

The customer service agents and some of the managers are nice people.

Cons

Barely get paid minimum wage (if you get the bonus) A coronavirus disaster waiting to happen (“don’t worry, Berlin is at low risk”) No benefits other than health insurance, which is mandatory Terrible environment in general Head office in Stockholm does not listen too are care about it’s employees outside of Sweden Company not as smoooth as it thinks it is You feel feel horrible helping this bank put people in debt

Advice to Management

Pay your employees more (much more) if you want to keep them. This is such stressful and demanding work for such very low pay. Visit your offices around the globe and think to yourself if you would feel comfortable working in that office. The environment and amenities for these offices are so depressing and unwelcoming. Allow employees to work from home instead of inside of an office with hundreds of people talking around you. These conditions make the work that much more stressful. In addition, it’s difficult to stay healthy as someone is always sick, which creates an ongoing cycle of flu symptoms throughout the office. I’m 100 positive someone or many will get the coronavirus here at some point.
