How are career development opportunities at L3Harris?

Pros

They took COVID-19 seriously here.

Cons

Low general moral, people seem to be here simply to live in the area not because they want a great career, no opportunities to increase skills or technical proficiency, teamwork and collaboration is not promoted, no communication in general, "unlimited vacation" just takes away your control of your time off and the executives keep pushing for overtime in order to bill customers more.

Advice to Management

Foster collaboration and stop taking away training opportunities just to get more billable hours.

What kind of career opportunities exist at L3Harris?

Pros

PTO, 9/80 work schedule, retirement match

Cons

Departmental racism, staff turn over, lack of career growth, disparities in advancement opportunities and instead favoritism and fast track promotions for hand selected individuals. Criteria does not seem based on credentials but rather being part of the majority white group or favored by that group.

Advice to Management

Try to create a culture where team members aren’t rushing to resign from their position. Balance necessary change and consistency. Don’t ask for feedback in an exit interview when you haven’t taken any feedback into account during the employee’s tenure. Don’t just focus on getting diverse talent through the door for the benefit of your metrics. The Employee Resource Groups aren’t the solution to all Diversity and Inclusion challenges and concerns.

Competitive compensation, good benefit options, advancement opportunities, challenging and engaging responsibilities, innovative culture, great products, loyal customer base, great coaching.

Large corporate structure that can be difficult to understand.

Continue to streamline the on-boarding experience and system training.

Why do L3Harris employees quit?

Pros

9/80 work week in CA. Nice to have every other Friday off

Cons

- Corporate take over of L3 executed poorly. There is a basic lack of communications with their employees. - Harris transitioned to a different vacation plan and employees are not getting payed out depending on if they are hourly or which state they live in. - After leaving Harris does not provide health coverage. They expected you to pay out of pocket until COBRA is established. - Employees moved around to different departments with out notification or without any discussion. Many managers and employees have not met their supervisors. - Employees assigned to different departments without notice - Employees laid off without any discussion for seemingly no reason.

Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees as criminals.

How are promotions handled at L3Harris?

Pros

Stable large company with a long history (of Harris and L3) in the A&D Industry. Good health benefits, great 401k, engaging work, clear expectations, and identified path for advancement.

Cons

Large company with slow advancement, new opportunities for promotion are dependent on positions opening (which isn't common), health benefits continue to increase in cost but offer less (industry-wide problem), culture is dependent on your business segment.

Advice to Management

There is a lot of unease on the future of the organization post-merger. A clearer definition of "what's next" would be helpful.
