What are meetings like at Laundry Service?

Pros

-Unlimited PTO -Cold brew on tap -Flexible WFH -Okay benefits

Cons

Toxic bro culture. You have meetings with the creative leads and you wonder if this job or your presence or his mediocrity conjured his need for more alcohol. It’s hard to tell he mumbles his feedback half the time. It’s not really a place of great original thinking, granted there’s barely anything new or ownable but man the perspective is so pedestrian. There’s a sense of delusion folks seem to have here and there are really no growth opportunities especially if you’re a woman, a woman of color, a queer woman. You just don’t see that repped. You see a tokenization among Black employees (cue Nike and Footlocker account) and you wonder gee am I the next token? Do I resist? Account team just take orders. The account heads from coast to coast are pretty inexperienced. It’s like they were an intern somewhere and then laundry service was the only place they worked after so they apply the insecurities of their inexperiences to competent people. Strategy, a disaster. Rolling employees in and out. Turnover is high and most seem to be hired coz they cool? Made the right references? Knows NFT?

Advice to Management

Try harder. Maybe it’s not just a training for your executive leadership on how not to be bias, toxic or self-absorbed but it’s actually practicing some empathy and active listening.

Pros

There's a great breath of clients at LS and multiple offices (e.g. NYC, LA, Portland and London), which present a great opportunity to rotate across brands. Account team is a very compassionate and empathetic group - your work life balance, as with any agency, will depend on the brand you work on and their marketing calendar. I've had times with 60 hour weeks and also times where if I put 40 hours in -- it really depends on the brand. The agency itself is not looking to intentionally stretch you. Work is solid and will have the opportunity to keep improving as more AOR business trickles in.

Cons

Trade perception of LS is still somewhat clouded by past client relationships that ended acrimoniously, despite the better work that has been coming out lately. Strategy has been a bit of a revolving door, but in the process of rebuilding.

Advice to Management

Continue to promote from within when possible and raise the voices of those who are passionate about the agency Define the north star for the agency, so everyone can be guided towards it as the agency matures
