What is the hiring process like at MYOB?

      MYOB reviews

Nice People, great work/life, ageing tech, innovation where? waterfall everywhere

      Pros

      - You'll get to work with some really down-to-earth people - Most people are super approachable - 2 days in the office, 3 days at home (so good) - Excellent social culture - Amazing grad program - If you're a junior or a mid, this would be a great place to learn alot (tech stacks, process, bouncing ideas off talented engineers). - All the AI tools you could want

      Cons

      - Ever feel like you spend more time talking about what you're going to do and build than actually doing the thing? - Aging tech stack in some areas, and it's going to be hard to find someone who has the time or knowledge, but don't worry, there will be 5 approvals and/or hoops to jump through to make any changes. - Alot of pressure from non-tech people to get stuff done, but never actually deciding what they want to build - Innovation, this company hasn't really heard of it, maybe they will get lucky with another hackathon. Or maybe the board will brain fart another idea out in the process of wanting the company to be sold. - AI, what's great is you'll have access to any tool you want, what's bad is the general motto and product approach to AI is "If we keep talking about it, hopefully somehow it'll make it in the product" No clear direction again, just alot of talk. - Benefits and leave, becoming really dated compared to Xero or any modern tech company (just look at the parental leave length) - Because of the whole wanting to be sold, (google myob sale in the AFR), there's no longer a process for any internal promotions currently; it's one of those wait for a position to become available deals, and even then, there are hiring freezes. We've seen a few talented engineers leave. - Lots of middle management leaving and shuffling, not sure what's happening here, but it's become way too common. It seems like there's alot of pressure from the SLT.

Great company, but was made redundant 3 months after being hired

      Pros

Amazing office in Melbourne, great systems in place and some really passionate managers

      Cons

Job security is pretty much non-existent since they make a sweep of redundancies towards the end of every financial year - I was told that the position I was being hired for was going to be great for my career progression.... and then they made me and all the other new hires redundant (without even giving us a chance to prove ourselves and pass probation).

      Growth Mindset

      Pros

The culture at MYOB truly lives up to its "growth mindset" philosophy. There is a genuine encouragement to learn, evolve, and take ownership of your professional development. Furthermore, the recruitment process is a standout experience—specifically working with Troy S, which was absolutely impeccable. The communication and professionalism from the start set a very high bar for the candidate journey.

      Cons

The internal infrastructure often feels like a "Frankenstein process." There is a significant lack of a universal system, as each team tends to adopt its own bespoke tools and workflows. This fragmentation can lead to unnecessary silos and friction when trying to collaborate across departments.

      Supportive and genuine

      Pros

Supportive, development focused culture. Genuine commitment to diversity (of thought and practice as well as more traditional workforce balance and inclusion). Lots of work on the culture and seem to be investing in staff and staff development. Incredible recruitment process and great HR team.

      Cons

30 years of history comes with a lot of tech debt and organizational baggage but there seems to be a real appetite to work on this. New CEO might be looking to shake things up and leave a mark, TBC if that's a good or bad thing though.
