What is paid time off like at Morrison & Foerster?

Pros

Benefits and PTO are pretty good

Cons

Staff treated terribly! Firm leadership only cares about partners and they make sure you never forget. Unrealistic expectations of staff- taking a 30 min lunch break is looked down upon. There is zero work life balance. Some of the staff is friendly, but others have the mentality of "dog eat dog world" - not a very healthy environment. Toxic work environment in certain practices. No firm culture or values.

What kind of career opportunities exist at Morrison & Foerster?

Pros

Great place to learn a lot about marketing and how to operate within a team. Tons of opportunity to move around locations and positions if you ask for what you want.

Cons

The marketing team is fairly disjointed and doesn't feel much like a team. Everyone does their own thing and it can often feel isolating. Management can be unaccommodating when it comes to flexible schedules, working remotely, etc.

Advice to Management

If you offer opportunities to work remotely or with flexible scheduling as long as work is getting done, employees will be happier and more motivated to stay.

How is management perceived at Morrison & Foerster?

Pros

The staff is amazing... Patent, Real Estate, and some Corporate partners are a nice... Most Managers and Hiring Partner(s)not so much - There should be one HM but it seems like there are 2-4 partners who make the decisions.

Cons

Poorly managed. Every single Manager has an issue of some sort, for the exception of some beautiful souls. Staff are not treated well. You are being watched constantly. There is no trust between lower level and higher level employees. There is no HR department. Rigid. You are micromanaged to the point of exhaustion. There is no room for growth professionally. Partners and Managers don't have much emotional intelligence and it shows, but sadly they don't care. If you are thinking of being a Summer Associate here, try everywhere else first.

Advice to Management

Stop it. Kindness takes you a long way with your employees. Allow people to grow and not micro manage every single detail. Don't let your personal insecurities allow you to think that you are managing with a firm hand. Treat your staff well. Stop being intimidated by people who have a personality and have a mind of their own. Learn to trust your employees and be loyal to them.

There is no trust between lower level and higher level employees.
