What is the retirement plan like at NRECA?

Pros

Excellent mission, working for access of those in rural communities to basic utilities specifically electricity, but partnering with others to include water, phone and internet. Best benefits package of any employer I’ve ever had. Well-managed retirement funds; encourages active, healthy lifestyles; focus on employee wellness and recognizes employee contributions.

Cons

I truly enjoyed every aspect of working at this association. If I hadn’t left the area due to family obligations, I believe I would still be working there today.

Advice to Management

Continue to communicate to employees about the history and ongoing legacy of the REA and how and why the mission is still relevant. NRECA has always been a leader in workforce management and innovation. Strive to maintain that edge and you will always attract and retain a loyal and dedicated workforce!

Does NRECA offer family leave?

Pros

Amazing benefits, great location, meaningful mission that helps rural communities and international electrification. Colleagues are passionate and professional.

Cons

Would be better to have true parental leave instead of that folding into STD policy. Not a transient DC workforce so expect to come and stay, and not get promoted every year.

How are senior leaders perceived at NRECA?

Pros

Location, retirement plans, coworkers are supportive.

Cons

The worst part of NRECA is its leadership team. The CEO has been asleep at the wheel, not practicing any leadership and letting his senior executives fight each other and causing silos. Many of these executives have been there for years and are just collecting a paycheck. Good luck if you decide to call this your work home.

Advice to Management

Clear out upper management ranks.

How is diversity at NRECA?

Pros

The benefits, pay and schedule flexibility are pros.

Cons

Lack of diverse people including women. The people who work here seem a bit judgemental and uncomfortable around people of color, until they "have" to interact with them. The diversity and inclusion committee is a joke. They only value you when you are an asset to them.

The diversity and inclusion committee is a joke.
