Pros

This review regards the nobu Malibu location. Sometimes the family meal provided is good. Mostly it is disgusting and haphazardly prepared by prep chefs. Training is intense and the job itself will be stressful. If you stick with it over 2 months, you are a part of the team. You will make lifelong friends and will make as much money as a high end server anywhere else, just being a busser. Full time hours required, health insurance, and 401k. No other restaurants in CA offer this. Study hard and always come early. It is looked upon favorably if you do.

Cons

Training period can be tough . This restaurant has a reputation and the Malibu location especially sees many celebrities and CEO’s. If you can’t handle studying, learning, and CRITICISM. This job won’t be for you. Everyone beyond 2 months has shown their willingness to endure and improve. Parking on street. Don’t be late. And don’t be lazy. The money you make is worth studying for.

Advice to Management

Y’all need to instrument a food runner guide more efficiently. Plenty of bussers wanted to study and move up. Leaving it up to older bussers to discover allergen and menu changes while newly hired people receive updated information is ridiculous. Management approves all promotions. If management did more to balance guiding employees while still encouraging them to learn beyond bussing.........they’d have no problem filling wait staff. You can’t intensely drill, criticize, and micromanage every staff member and suddenly leave them to learn by themselves, everything you expect from a runner/server. You need to encourage those promotions as well. This place can also be incredibly confusing. Unfortunately some of our staff will not introduce themselves due to a high new staff turnover. Some of them also act as if training is a goddamn chore. Please speak to staff more seriously regarding treatment of new hires!!!!
