What are perks and other benefits like at Oregon Department of Human Services?

Pros

Good money, staffing ratio 2/1 or less. Excellent benefits, usually plenty of overtime available for those that want it. Lots of down time on night shift if you are one that needs time for homework. Meals are provided for staff along with clients. Was actually last employed there 2008 but nothing to choose from drop down menu on this site.

Cons

Must maintain an excellent driving record, long commute is common when at entry level hiring, mandatory overtime on occasion. Houses have average of 5 clients. Many houses throughout Northwest Oregon.

Advice to Management

Management does well concerning the politics that come with it. No complaints. Management was generally impartial but each house has a different manager. I can only speak for mine. Houses that have sex offenders take more patience.

Excellent benefits, usually plenty of overtime available for those that want it.

Does Oregon Department of Human Services offer tuition reimbursement?

Pros

Get to meet people, travel around, decent-ish pay, government benefits, decent-ish training, maybe, rarely even help people, was sometimes interesting

Cons

No work life balance, hostile clients, hostile, terrible, non-supportive management, racist coworkers, often seems like not really helping but just punitive, penalizing poor people, and especially, people of color.

Does Oregon Department of Human Services offer unlimited time off?

Pros

Good benefits, union, flexible work schedule, alot of paid time off.

Cons

Extremely stressful work, oversized caseloads, not enough support for workers, irate clients, management never available to assist.

Advice to Management

Provide more comprehensive training and more support to workers in office.
