What is a typical working day like at Penske Media?

Pros

I interned at Variety for 6 months during the pandemic, and although there was no in-person coverage, other staffers ensured we had plenty of opportunities to cover events and stories that interested us. The work environment is also very friendly, and they genuinely want you to ask questions and learn about entertainment news through the internship.

Cons

The workload ranges, but at times it is hard to keep up on busier days. But the intern coordinator always has your back and makes sure the workload slows to the point that it becomes doable!

What is it like working with clients or customers at Penske Media?

Pros

They offer free healthy snack options. You will get to work with big name clients but if you are looking to work at a place where you will contribute to innovative campaigns then this is not the place for you. Their strategies are extremely dated and management leaves zero room for suggestions .

Cons

Zero work life balance. This company combines sick days and vacation days. This forces employees to come in to work sick and infect other coworkers. They also don't offer Summer Fridays and force you to work on extremely dated computers.

Advice to Management

If you want to retain top talent, offer competitive compensation and benefits packages to compete with other companies who are currently offering way more work life balance and flexibility.

What is the work environment like at Penske Media?

Pros

The CEO really cares about the welfare of his employees. Pay and benefits are decent. I've never worked for a company that makes me feel as safe and protected like PMC, especially during COVID. Their honesty is refreshing. Holiday/PTO time has increased since the beginning of my work tenure. Diversity is a growing and nurtured part of how PMC does business. Matching 401k. Good to great co-workers! Fun office environment, but working from home has also been a blessing during these times.

Cons

I am not sure if there is a gender wage gap like some reviews have said - if true, that needs to be rectified. Management needs to work on showing appreciation for and helping their staff (see below advice to management).

Advice to Management

Staff should be able to review their managers, not just the other way around. We should be able to provide feedback directly to upper management without fear of repercussion, if our immediate manager is not performing well. Minor things are prioritized while larger questions can go unanswered for months.

How is the office food at Penske Media?

Pros

PMC has an impressive portfolio of iconic/historic brands, but company is also not afraid of new endeavors and challenges. I've been working here for over 2 years, and there's never been a dull moment of doing the same thing over and over again because the CEO is always looking for new areas to grow the business. With so much growth and expansion comes new opportunities, and PMC does a good job of trusting its employees to implement the vision. I'm lucky to work with a group of very talented people that inspire me every day. The company also is very proactive in building a great culture for its employees by having great team-building retreats, holiday parties, and volunteer programs. There's also free breakfast and snacks in the well-equiped kitchen. Who can complain about that!

Cons

I think the company is growing so fast that some processes were overlooked and have not been completely implemented. They currently have no mandatory yearly review or cost of living increases. I do think Jay Penske is listening to his employees and is working hard to get a better system in place within the company. They've already added 401k matching and increased the PTO amount within the last year.
