How are senior leaders perceived at PrimeSource Building Products?
Pros
They pay you on time. If you don't like a decision, just wait a day (sometimes less), it'll change (although probably for the worse). You can learn how to be a great leader - just observe how leadership behaves, then do the exact opposite.
Cons
Leadership is terrible, its like they all went to a class on leadership and misunderstood what good leaders do - because they do the opposite. I watched leaders purposely try to embarrass managers in front of their teams. My director gave me instructions, then sat by silently while his boss tore me a new one because he didn't like the instructions I was given. Leadership refuses to admit when they are wrong or made a mistake (everyone is occasionally wrong or makes a mistake here and there). They will lie, gaslight or refuse to have the conversation when this happens. New initiatives are poorly thought out, planned or socialized by leadership; then those that have to execute these initiatives take the blame when they fail. Other than the ERP the technology is outdated. You are given substandard tools to do they job they ask you to do, then are beaten up when you don't get A+ results. They love layoffs, you can count on at least two rounds of layoffs a year. Don't disagree with leadership about anything, or you'll find yourself on the layoff list. Severely understaffed, 12 hour days are the norm. Leadership is verbally abusive, they don't care about developing their teams, they just want to beat you up. Constantly given responsibility for new reports that only seem to exist for the sake of creating the report. Everyone I interacted with below director level was unhappy, most were miserable. Employees send constant nasty passive aggressive emails to each other. Not one person will actually pick up the phone a call each other to work out issues. You are judged on KPIs that don't accurately measure results, and the reports that they use to pull performance results are wrong. I could pull the numbers from multiple sources - each would give a different result; leadership was aware of this issue. Health insurance sucks - high out of pocket costs.
Advice to Management
Everyone at director level needs to go to intensive leadership training. Stop lying to your employees. Its okay to admit when you made a mistake or a wrong - employees respect that, they don't respect liars. If a task is important enough to ask someone to do, then its important enough to give them the proper tools to do accomplish that task. Go back an review the results from your last engagement survey - all the negativity is not the result of the managers not performing - its the result of the directors and above not letting them perform.
