What is health insurance like at Rocketship Public Schools?

Pros

Of course making a impact on children Resources for whatever you need that money can buy Pretty decent health insurance

Cons

These are the Cons... I do not like the fact that these words must be left. But I honestly feel like no one should have to go through what Rocketship Legacy Prep will put you through. It is by far the worst school I've ever worked at in all my years that I have worked with children. FIRST THING FIRST ADULTS ARE PUTTING THEIR HANDS ON CHILDREN! A SCHOOL LEADER DOES UNTIL THEY SCREAM. Ask any 3rd or 4th grade student what happens when they get in trouble, and they will freely tell you what the school leader does or has done to them. There is NO PROFESSIONALISM! Professionalism is completely absent! Daily classroom teaching consists of screaming at the students. Sadly, teachers have to adapt. Why? If not, school leaders will treat you as if you have not followed protocol! The outcome of such enabling and desensitizing of the Teaching Professionals and students, the students will ONLY respond when an adult has raised their voice in an extreme way. Yelling and screaming at the students is definitely preferred and encouraged by this school. Many teachers attempt to hide their tears during the school day that come from the daily extreme hardships of working in a school with no Support for the teachers and unrealistic deadlines to name a couple of issues. One teacher suffered an anxiety attack on school property and no one knew. .(And It wasn't because of the students) It's disheartening! Egregious behaviors by students are not handled properly! Students are not being held accountable for their actions. School leaders will send students that are still in an escalated state, back into the same classroom that student was a disruption in. When California school officials visit for observation, Rocketship, provides false information. Information that can aide the teaching staff on how to maneuver within such a stressful environment is missed due to school leaders communicating that all is well, when it is not. There is a month long Professional Development prior to the first day of school. You will think they really care about serving students. But they don’t. You will think you're in a proper work environment, but your not! It's a front, and it sucks! The school environment is out of control! Whether you have classroom experience or not…DO NOT COME HERE! The hard way is not the way you want to learn in that environment! Different professional views will leave you with NO support. A difference in how you view situations or topics, will have you looked at like your crazy and pushed out. . This is my story, only I was happy to go. I worked at Rocketship to truly make a positive difference. The school is not designed to allow such a difference. Doing “right” by the students and your is not encouraged in this school. If you need money then do what you have to do. But if you have a choice. Choose better.

Does Rocketship Public Schools offer a wellness program?

Pros

Every Rocketship school has designated a CareCorps of at least four educators who are responsible for contacting every Rocketship family, every day. Their mission is to support our most vulnerable families who are experiencing the destabilizing impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. Every morning, the CareCorps sends a brief wellness survey to all families to ensure everyone feels safe at home and identifies any needs in the school community. The team reviews all responses before noon each day and then follows up directly with families who indicated they need support. This added layer of personal outreach is incredibly important right now.

Cons

Super hard work and takes a ton of hours but teahing is difficult so that is to be expected....wish we had more planning time during the actual work day.

Advice to Management

Thank you for your support during the COVID crisis and caring spirit towards our kiddos.

What are some insights into the strategy or vision at Rocketship Public Schools?

Pros

Well written fake reviews on Glassdoor. They get you with salary and benefits and a good sounding mission, but it's at a cost of time and lacks real impact. No prep periods and often not even a lunch. 10 hour days.

Cons

A brand of schools trying to reinvent the wheel. Very old school type of instruction, think rows and hours of teacher lecture paired with harsh discipline. Educators have no voice, you are the way to disseminate a product. None of their methods were valuable after I left. Forced company culture. Students are below grade level and just passed along. Parents are sold bad data as "growth". Comparative schools are actually doing the same with less time and better resources, but they still claim to be better. Leadership is immature and unprofessional. When I decided to move on they reacted bizarrely, cultish even. Working here ended up being a henderence to my teaching career as Rocketship is does not have a good reputation in the educational community.

Advice to Management

Provide a better education for students and follow labor laws for your staff.

How are career development opportunities at Rocketship Public Schools?

Pros

- kiddos and families are amazing to work with - inclusion model for students with Special Education needs - opportunities for career advancement

Cons

- allow unqualified teachers and school leaders to teach and lead - militant expectations and behavioral management towards students (students are yelled and screamed at routinely, students are expected to be silent and still for excessive amounts of time) - network and higher-ups do little about your concerns - amount of hours expected for salary staff to work is unreasonable and unhealthy - Rocketship spends a lot of resources focusing on their image versus on the quality and care of their education and treatment for students
