How was the interview at Samsung R&D Institute India - Bangalore?

Pros

The work given was straightforward Plenty of time was provided for preparing for the recruitment test

Cons

Despite a long internship, placement offers were based mostly on the outcome of the interview process The scheduling of interviews was very haphazard and timely information about whether someone would proceed to another round or not was not provided There was not a lot of work available (maybe it was because of covid as well in some part)

Advice to Management

Define the recruitment procedure better and strengthen the policy around transparency between recruiter and student. Have options to take on more work if a candidate is interested and increase work instead of relying on tests that can be easily memorised for recruitment.

What is the hiring process like at Samsung R&D Institute India - Bangalore?

Pros

There are some great research opportunities in samsung but you have to be proactive and alert to grab them.Seniors would try to submit your work without informing you or in case you are submitting something you worked on they will pressurize you to add their names as well.

Cons

The management has no trust in employees. There is mandatory 45 hrs/week policy here and the amount of time you spend on your seat defines how sincere you are.The HRs check swipe-in and swipe-out logs to ensure there is no "attendance violation " and your rating is decreased in case there is. There development projects undertaken as POC are rarely accepted by HQ and released. So the development experience gained here is not industry relevant. The company has no Work from home policy, we were granted WFH during the pandemic but management didn't 'allow' us to leave bengaluru to be with our families. It was allowed from june to visit our families but there was lot of pressure created to discourage us from visiting our parents! The approval process for it was very complex and needed consent from entire hierarchy! After a month managers start creating pressure on employees to return back to bengaluru. They opened offices on 6 May,2020 when the nation was in lockdown and pressure was created on employees to start going to office.Once handful number of employees visiting office tested positive we were told to visit office only if necessary. We are informed when someone tests positive. Recently the management has started victim blaming and stated there is no point in providing WFH if people are not taking necessary precautions. One of the good things that Samsung had was work life balance but that was thrown out of window during pandemic, we were expected to work a lot more during pandemic and were asked to work on weekends as well.Taking leaves during pandemic is not easy unless you are unwell.

Advice to Management

Please start valuing employees that are good. There are some great people working in Samsung but they are leaving the organisation and all that is left is the people who can't make it anywhere.

How do employees feel about the requirements to work at Samsung R&D Institute India - Bangalore?

Pros

Good Infrastructure, Fine pay as per the semicon giants in Bengaluru

Cons

No company is bad. But, few of its pathetic employees reflect the complete negative image of the brand value. I was working in Samsung for last 3 years. I came across lot of good & brilliant colleagues, eventually I learned from them. Problem I spotted with in PHY team of 4G and 5G. Humiliation is part of the job, from freshers to new joiners (experienced persons). Those people working in Samsung for more than a decade and now literally forgot that they work in samsung and doesn't own this company. If you go against their will then get ready to be placed under PIP(performance improvement program) . Even though it's been more than an year all of us going through Covid 19 pandemic. We lost our loved ones. But in SSIR, story is completely different because someone has to satisfy his ego & hence u get ready to be terminated. Another case, I also came across some scenarios of Security Violation issues. In SSIR, u can't even take a picture of the cafeteria or even your cubicle. Here I came across my colleagues in different RAT groups in PHY team. People got accidentally stuck in security violation. Even though they were nowhere intended to anything wrong against the company. Still those people were suspended for months without salary and eventually they were terminated. Now you think, in this pandemic where hardly u get call for any job. You don't even have salary slips. The major issue, indeed SSIR terminated such people but the way got terminated as they never would be able to come back to their normal life. SSIR destructed them professionally, personally and pushed them for mental trauma during this pandemic. I tried to contact those colleagues. They are completely off the network. When I came across of such incidents with my colleagues then I also decided to leave such toxic environment of SSIR. Another issue, you better forget about the work life balance in SSIR. I would like to recommend to all those people who have offer letter from SSIR. Please don't join, specifically PHY team of Modem group.
