How is diversity at Service Corporation International?

Pros

Death Care is a complex business, most everyone in all departments are willing to support my professional efforts to give excellent service to my families. I feel that I am welcomed as a team member, not only when I receive help, but also when I give others help. I believe in the superiority of SCI / Dignity Memorial. I don't know of any other company I could work for that offers flexible transferability of pre-arranged funeral and cemetery plans to over 1,900 Dignity Memorial providers in North America -- AND complimentary funeral or cremation services to children and grandchildren -- AND bereavement travel assistance -- AND 13 months of complimentary grief counseling -- AND access to a grief management library -- AND assists many families by relieving the remaining balance due on their pre-arranged cemetery. I SLEEP VERY WELL AT NIGHT knowing I came back to work for a company that I BELIEVE IN. Dignity Memorial's facilities are very tasteful, but not overdone. I feel that my employer has my back and the back of the families that I serve. They honor and elevate diversity, including LGBTQ.

Cons

The industry in general is very complex; be sure to understand the challenges of the career, especially if you're a beginner. If you demonstrate a willingness to give it your all and try to grow every day, they are very supportive.

Advice to Management

Continue on the track you're on in asking for input from the associates at the lower levels. I feel even better about the company the frequent times I have been brought in on the information loop to know and understand the corporation's emerging Mission and Vision. I absolutely love the compassionate new corporate value: "Every Detail Remembered." Well done, and thank you.

How is race or ethnicity talked about at Service Corporation International?

Pros

SCI has made tremendous and bold strategic moves to ensure the Company's culture and products and offerings match that of the people who are part of the Company's biggest asset: it's people. Examples of courageous leadership includes creating ARCs (to ensure the company includes people of color, LGBTQ+ , women, and veterans as part of the Company's strategy), transformational marketing (to ensure we meet the needs of face-to-face and virtual customers), online streamed services offered to families who are unable to travel, and commitments to removing people in leadership roles who do not practice, in both perception and actuality, the core values and ideologies of the Company. I am a Black, female, and heavy advocate for all communities and I believe SCI offers not just a career, but a sense of belonging and an opportunity to affect change in the world.

Cons

Glass ceilings still exist for people of color in the executive suite, but I am hopeful that this will change in near future years to come.
