What are perks and other benefits like at Topgolf?

Pros

My advice is to work for corporate or RUN. Don’t waste your time trying to become an HM, GSM, F&B, OM, or DO. It's not worth the damage to your mental or physical health. - Topgolf appears to be a dream job from the outside - you are working for a massive technology and entertainment company that seems to have NO limit on how big and powerful it can get. - It has unlimited potential for growth (although it is based strictly on politics and favoritism). Between venue growth of ops management, facilities, event sales; then corporate growth with all different levels and positions in Dallas. It allows for people of all skills and backgrounds to create a career with them (sorta). - The benefits of free golf, 50% off F&B, and 20% off retail are excellent perks at the venue level. - Toptracer, Topgolf Media, WGT app, Topgolf Live, and Concerts on the Green are all areas that are under the radar but are great areas for career opportunities.

Cons

- Where to begin... Topgolf is famous for "edgy spirit" and "culture" when a venue first opens up and when associates are first hired and work their first 60 days or so. Once you start to spend a year or more you begin to realize how unhealthy, fake, and political the venues are ran. - Promotions are purely based on how much "edgy spirit" you have which literally means acting immaturely and loud instead of having hospitality and management skills to really help a large and high volume venue. - There is ZERO communication between corporate and venues. The only time standards are held is when a National Director of Ops comes into the venue which is rare. - There is an obsession with the "labor curve" instead of staffing to give guests a good experience. They would rather see below plan labor on a PnL than a healthy staffed venue. Other bullets: - No work/life balance - No opportunity for raises - Too much competition and drama when using PTO - TONS of administrative work but you cant do that in the venue it all must be done at home. So you are working at least 60+ hours a week.

Advice to Management

To Corporate -- be more connected with your venues and stop pretending like you know what it is like work a summer Saturday night with a 4 hour wait. The PnL & OSAT don’t paint the entire picture. To Venue Management -- listen to your associates, just because they bring up issues doesn't mean they are "skunking". Waiting for the Rockstar Survey and then putting out a presidential type plan that wont be followed after three months doesn't fix issues at hand. Write up managers that aren't performing and stop being so blindly loyal to them.

The benefits of free golf, 50% off F&B, and 20% off retail are excellent perks at the venue level.

What is the retirement plan like at Topgolf?

Pros

401k match (vests instantly), solid insurance options, 3 weeks paid vacation plus 8 floating holidays. Great physical environment.

Cons

Too many upper-level managers on-boarding from large, chain restaurant corporations. The only thing they know how to do is slowly kill a brand in the effort to increase top-line sales, anticipating an IPO. Currently, the atmosphere is slowly becoming toxic at the Home Office and National Director levels.

Advice to Management

We have been discounting the brand too much to drive Top-Line Revenue. I know this helps for future roadshows-- but if we squeeze too hard we will end up facing YOY goals that will be hard to hit once we stop discounting. The beauty of Topgolf was that it had a unique leadership culture at the top levels-- I feel that we are becoming "Brinkerized". We need to focus on the Venues-- not concerts and media, etc. Sure, we have competitors on the horizon and need to diversify profit centers-- but we should be focusing on maintaining infrastructure, keeping the culture 100% forward, and doing what we do best. Lastly, it is just plain wrong to reduce the carryover of PTO hours to 40 at the beginning of a new fiscal year (That is why it is illegal in some states). Do the right thing here please. That balance has been EARNED and should carryover up to the maximum allowed and should be paid at separation if a balance exists. It is the Manager's earned money-- not Topgolf's.
