How is management perceived at Tri-County Technical College?

Pros

The state benefits are relatively good, there is some flexibility when you need time off, and some departments function well and have happy employees. The students are wonderful and most truly want to be there to learn and better their personal situation. Many of the employees are supportive and kind to one another and can absolutely become lifelong friends.

Cons

It is difficult to move up here. It is a small college with few positions to fill and, even when one opens up, they are more concerned with who you know than with what you know. The upper management is only focused on bringing in money and does not care about what is best for the underprivileged students trying to improve their lives. Middle management varies by area of the college. In some departments, lower management is verbally abusive, hateful, two-faced and will always seek a scapegoat when they mess up. Perhaps the worst part - if you go to HR seeking help, improvement, or positive change, the ultimate result is you being told by your superior's superior that your "perspective is wrong and it is his/her job to correct that." They refuse to acknowledge that lower management could be an issue despite one department consisting of 9 staff positions having lost 12 people in three years (that's right, they have had multiple people leave the same position) because the immediate supervisor is toxic and mistreats subordinates.

Advice to Management

Middle and upper management, as well as HR, need to take a second look at who they hire and stop focusing on candidate's connections and actually pay attention to the quality of person and their qualifications.

The upper management is only focused on bringing in money and does not care about what is best for the underprivileged students trying to improve their lives.

What is the company culture at Tri-County Technical College?

Pros

It is a paying Job

Cons

Very Stressful. Poor Salaries. Work-spaces have become cubical farms. The family like culture was replaced with a culture of favoritism and politics by executive staff and several department heads, where the squeaky wheels in the college get the grease, salary increases, and offices. Employees are undervalued, underpaid, and micromanaged. Employees are machines waiting to be discarded if they show the slightest vibration. Employees tip-toe around executive staff feeling they cannot share their concerns out of fear of retaliation, alienation, and termination. The pressure is unreal. As other people have stated... the environment is toxic.

Advice to Management

Take a hard look at the culture that has been created by some members of the executive staff and department heads. I fear you will be shocked by some of the conditions and pressure their employees are working under that's being swept under the rug.

What is the work environment like at Tri-County Technical College?

Pros

The students are incredible and the majority of the faculty and staff really care about the work and the students.

Cons

Part-time employees don't receive the support or opportunities for development that are offered to full-time staff. It's hard to find opportunities to move up.

Advice to Management

Remember that the part-time workers do two thirds of the work of a full time worker for one third of the pay. Help them develop their careers.
