Does University of Alabama at Birmingham offer housing assistance?
Pros
Low cost of living, generally, and lots of good housing nearby allowing walking vs a commute. 18k take home, with insurance. Obtain thorough teaching experience, which is required of PhD students Instructors can never be metoo'd, even if. First year students may get a bonus to encourage enrollment
Cons
High load wrt balance of commitments between teaching (10+ h per week in classroom, then include prep and grading and student time) and research and classes. Student insurance decreases in coverage quality each year despite it being a medical University. Student health services are under allocated, having too few medical professionals. UAll students utilize the same doctors. Psychiatrists, for example, might manage 2 sessions a semester because they're protentially serving thousands of patients and there are only 3 parttimers doing it . GP and gyno services are much better, but if you aren't 19 and healthy don't expect much. Teaching staff who are established and have been there consistently do good work. First year students get a monetary bonus for joining - but salary is not affected by experience or class load increases.
Advice to Management
