    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at 3M (Austin, TX) in October 2016.

    Interview

I spoke to 3M at my school's career fair and was contacted close to two months later for an interview. I don't believe that is the standard time frame, I got the impression that they were somewhat disorganized this year. The man interviewing me was nice and somewhat casual compared to other interviews I have had; he stated in the email to dress business casual and that it was not necessary to wear a suit.

    Interview Questions

    • All questions were standard behavioral questions; nothing surprising or excessively difficult.

Where do you see yourself in the future (as in, do you plan on going to grad school)?
      Answer Question
    • Talk about a time you pursued/researched a topic that was of interest to you and that was not part of an assignment?   1 Answer

Applied online, received phone call ~15 minutes of basic experience questions. Onsite interview that lasted about 3 hours mostly showing around/lab walk through followed by session of detailed questions about resume and some hypothetical problem solving.

    Interview Questions

    • Nothing too difficult, just be ready for some problem solving and know your own resume backwards and forwards. There were some basic social interaction questions as well such as "How do you work with other people when you encounter a disagreement..."   1 Answer

    Reasons for Declining

Better offer from another company and they took too long. Total process from online submission to offer took ~2 months. Great group of people and great company, it was hard to turn down but money talks. The offer is also contingent upon drug screen and background check to be completed within 72 hours of offer acceptance.

Process was extremely easy and stream lined. Once I got called in for an interview I was toured around the facility before being brought into a conference room. There I met with 3 separate scientists who asked questions about my Resume, with a focus on leadership roles. I was only asked a few technical questions, but overall was more a personality quiz.
