    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at ARRIS (San Antonio, TX) in October 2014.

    Interview

There were 2 stages, stage 1 was within a group, they had us listen to a recorded call, grade the recorded call based on the tactics the call center used, and state what we would have done to make the call better. Stage 2 was a face to face interview where we were asked questions based on different scenarios to see how we dealt with the problem or situation.

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at ARRIS.

    Interview

Coming from an internal applicant, my experience might be atypical for an external applicant. The process was overall very informal. I submitted my resume and was contacted within a few weeks about an interview. I had one brief meeting (on the phone) discussing the position, what it entails, what technologies are commonly used, etc. I was given a few topics to study up on. The next interview was also fairly informal (phone interview) where I basically discussed my own experiences using Java, different projects that I had done, what technologies I have used. I was asked a few questions about race conditions, multi-threading, and Spring Framework.

    Interview Questions

    • Can you briefly describe the Spring Framework and what its advantages are?   Answer Question
    • What does the 'synchronized' keyword do when added to a method?   Answer Question
    • Describe the most complex Java project you have worked on.   Answer Question

Phone interview followed by a face-to-face interview.

On-site interview was mostly about programming knowledge and some technical tricks to see your analytical skills. You don't have to know everything they ask but you do need a way to handle the questions so that they can see your approach of handling difficult technical situations.
