    Senior Manager, Vendor Management Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 5+ weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in September 2012.

    Interview

I went through 3 separate phone screens, one with the recruiter then one with a hiring manager, then one with a peer. I was then flown to Seattle where I had 8 interviews over an 8 hour day. The interviewers seemed to be working from a master list of questions that they divided up. So most of the time was taken with a heavy behavioral group of questions. Everything from "tell me about a time where you disagreed with your manager, but had to execute anyway." to "tell me about your worst hiring decision.

Each took what appeared to be detailed notes, except the most senior person I met with and the person who took me to lunch, who would have been a direct report.

Also, before I went, I had to do an essay. I didn't love either of the two questions I was given.

    Interview Questions

    • What is the most inventive or innovative thing you’ve done? It doesn’t have to be something that’s patented. It could be a process change, product idea, a new metric or customer facing interface – something that was your idea. It cannot be anything your current or previous employer would deem confidential information. Please provide us with context to understand the invention/innovation. What problem were you seeking to solve? Why was it important? What was the result? Why or how did it make a difference and change things?   Answer Question

    Management Intern Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Amazon in November 2011.

    Interview

The interview consisted of a production efficiency evaluation. I was provided with several different production circumstances and was asked to use the information and determine proper allocation of my "employees" for that day. This was very difficult, and I was given several curveballs, such as "One of your employees left work early. Now what?" The subsequent questions were very basic. Essentially, they wanted me to convince them why I am good with people and why Amazon is the most exciting company in the world.

    Interview Questions

    • Your employees are currently procession X number of orders per hour. Assume, however, that your demand in department Y is being doubled for the afternoon and one employee is leaving work early. Please reallocate your employees to the appropriate department.   Answer Question
    • What would you do if an employee asked for preferential treatment regarding being late to work, and you knew they had a valid reason for this request?   Answer Question
