Difficult Interview

Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at American Airlines.

Interview

I was approached by one of the vendors for American Airlines for this position. The interview was a 4 step process - first by a consultant at the vendor, then by three managers at AA over the phone. This was followed by 3 batches of 2 project managers each (a total of 6) - While the first two focused on Agile skills, the last interview by three PM's was all about "situational questions", "behavioural" questions. I used the STAR technique, and while this part of the interview process lasted about 60-90 minutes, there were probably a 3 sets of 15-20 questions each.

    Interview

Entire process took about 3 months I applied in November and was sent an email regarding a panel interview for January. Interview was a scripted 3 person interview they took turns asking questions such as "Tell us about something you've learned in the past year and how you've applied it in your work." Typical interview questions. In addition there was a writing sample required which you have 30 minutes to complete. A few of the questions I remember are: What are the five stages of planning? and How would you foster a self forming team?

    Interview Questions

    • They run an agile shop so many of the technical questions were geared toward Agile. There was no mention of Agile (Scrum) listed in the job posting.   Answer Question

The hiring manager then selects the candidates and invites for interview. If selected they confirm the vendor company about the selection of the candidate.

No negotiation in AA contract rate but there could be negotiations (with your company) if you are on some other company's payroll and working for AA.

    Interview

Standard one on one interview, Interviewee (no longer with company) seemed a bit distracted stalling the interview. I left the interview knowing more about the interviewee. I was not selected for this job although was hired for another position within the organization.
