Application

The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at AstraZeneca.

Interview

Asked to drive to another city for interviews. When I arrived I waited 30 - 40 minutes . No one came out to let me know they were running late. Finally someone came out to greet me. I was given little information on the interview or what to expect. It was mainly STAR questions. I was told by the hiring panel my background was too different and wouldn't understand pharma. Why did you invite me to interview if you believed that? I drove 2 -3 hours home. Sent over a thank you email. The one interviewer immediately replied wishing me best of luck in future endeavors. This sort of poor treatment of candidates reflects badly on their company.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at AstraZeneca (Greensboro, NC) in April 2013.

    Interview

Resume submittal, Phone screening, personality test, face to face (with 2 hiring managers) and job offer. I felt that if you can just make it to the face to face that it was pretty easy. IT was laid back. They like to use STAR examples "tell me of a time...." and you answer the situation with: S- Situation, T- Task, A- Activity or Action taken, R- Result. Be sure to have 5-7 examples ready to go just in case.

Recruiter called for phone screen. Asked typical questions. Computer generated personality screen test required. Had excellent rep denied interview due to this personality test -- not sure what exactly the computer was looking for but they missed a highly qualified candidate by using a computer instead of real, humans to decide who can get a one on one interview. They utilize the classic pharma interview implementing the 5 star method. I believe there is a book out there called acing the pharmaceutical interview. I personally did not read this book but have been told by colleagues that if you get that book and utilize it you will do great in an interview for almost any pharma company interview.

    Interview

Did a phone screening where they are just testing to see if you are personable. They will ask you STAR questions and will ask you to describe a time you did a presentation. Then did a personality questionnaire then proceeded to do a face to face interview with 2 DSM. After that I did a ride along with a sales rep then had a brief meeting with one of the DSM and just talked to her about how my day went. I was offered the position a couple days later. Make sure to do your research on the company!! I had no experience in the industry but because I was so prepared they were very impressed.
